Thank-you Cowboy for taking trouble to describe the background of "Creole" for me --I thought you would know a little as youre close to area.
You see,im very curious about Grandmaman.I didnt know her for long--I was born to "older" parents(they were near 40),so she was lot older.But shes a mysterious figure.Looking at very old photos,she was almost "hidden". and this fits in with the "shunning" you speak of.Yet strangely she stands out,as she was quite "exotic looking".very tiny,her skin has a dusky look and shes very long black hair,sort of frizzy& wavy,lots of it! In fact she was quite beautiful.My father died young so couldnt ask him(he looked quite like her)&my Mama was "cagey" about her-do'you think she was from mixed marriage --possibly from former black/French origin?i feel sad about her-hate to think of anyone treated different because of looks-but itwas like that then i suppose!
Ive inherited none of her looks-totallyblonde/blue/eyed from Mama!but do have a natural curl to hair,but not frizzy---have her name though which Im proud of!
I'd be grateful for anything else you might know Cowboy--Im trying to get hold of birth/marriage certificates--but its a hard task as all concerned have now gone-but Ill keep trying.I probably should havegone on Peter Belifantes sight with this maybe? Thanks so much,Ellie.

hi ms elly,...if she wasn't from a "mixed " marrage herself, her family tree has "mixed" blood...if she truly was a cajin. (race is going to be a big part of her story, so let's accept it as a fact of life). questions...do you know when and where she was born? when and where (europe or america) she met your grandfather? their ages? when and where your father was born? what is her full name? did she have a "stage" name? was she a clasicaly trained dancer? this could be an interesting subject to follow up...i'm willing to try if you would like to work with me.

Before I answer you Cowboy,I feel I must apologise to Martin for bringing on this "other" subject,also to our webmaster Steen --if they object to my using this topic we may have to make it a separate topic.
Anyhow Cowboy, I do thank you for taking such interest and for all the info.I did find a site on Creole and it all tied-up with what you said. I only know that she was born in France and thats where she danced on stage as young woman(1920s-30s)-Paris.They met when she came to London where they lived their lives(she spoke English with strong French accent).My Grandfather owned an "Evening dress" hire shop (south of the Thames)where they lived,and my father was born -but its been demolished years ago.
Ive tried to trace surname in France through French friend,but so far no luck;he said if her family goes way back it might be difficult as many Church& parish records were destroyed in the "Revolution",also WW2.
I dont want to print family name on here as I have cousins who I cant contact and it wouldnt be right without their permission. If I use your private message I will put it on there.
Im absolutely fascinated by it all and had no idea of the "Cajun" connection--though I like the food--so did my father! On the site I found they mentioned Louisiana as a big settling place for Creole,does that tally with your info? Many thanks,Muito obrigado,Ellie.

hi ms elly, who's to know where wjs goes..i've seen him post on other threads..for all i know, he could even be the "guest" that got on maddi's bad side..in any case, i wouldn't worry...i'm sure he'll turn up in due time...and i'll be waiting.

ms maddi, the way you told "guest" off on the other thread was great...like you, it realy ticks me off when somone makes a snide comment without knowing who is saying it.... now, as to "chit chat"....what would the both of you think about me starting a thread for chit chat only..no topic, just go with whatever pops up?

A chit,chat topic,mm,d'you mean one thing leading to another so to speak, suppose that should be thrown open to general opinion.But how would webmaster Steen feel about that . Many of the topics posted end up wandering of at tangents to other subjects --and I for one am very guilty of that,especially when emotion comes into it--see what response you get Coop.
As for "guests", lately Im more of the opinion that (despite my detrimental remarks on previous topics) an unregistered "whoever", "whatever", "Sam" , "Herman or Norman" adds a bit of mystery, spice or ,what was it ? Nemesis to the proceedings --Ive probably put that all wrong but hope you see my meaning ?
Anyway,its back to work now-boa noite,Ellie.

bom dia ms elly, ah yes..the unregistered "whomevers"...while they do introduce "spice" (ever met posh?), it also can cause problems...(if you want to talk more on this subject we can go to p.m.)...i don't know what steen want's to do with this site, and whatever he want' is fine by me, but it's becoming more active as time goes by, and there are starting to be more "regulars" on the site. while we do get off on tagents on some threads, most of the threads are left alone....and the ones we do go off on seem to attract viewers..entertainment value? does anyone think a "chat room" type arangment would be worthwhile?

I agree with Maddi on this, is there any chance at all of calling it "quits" and closeing this topic. It's not nice or true for Portuguese users to see the heading anyway! Changeing the heading is not the right way to go either. Blondelle, have you got any other hobbies?

How about coming up with a new topic, I agree this topic is demeaning
to the Portuguese.
Maybe you could borrow a title from a little know playwrite and call it:

"much ado about nothing"
