Only just got back from my umpteenth holiday in Carvoeiro which was once again fantastic. It seemed that the bars to goto this year were Flic Flac, Jailhouse, Safari Bar, Absoluto, Rochemar and Mungos.

Flic Flac is very smart but a tad expensive.

Jailhouse is always fun and Dave and KAren are great. Dave's jokes are superb as is his singing - "so she pours herself another cup of coffee...."

Safari Bar is always full with youngsters and Chloe the barmaid is very attractive (please email me Chloe - thanks for signing my cap!) and there is a karaoke competition every nigtht.

Absoluto is a really nice smart bar run by Paulo who is really friendly. Try a Paulo medecine. He also does some great cocktails and has the best nuts in Carvoeiro

Rocha Bar has just opened and you can some really nice cocktails in there and Paulo and Andrea take a lot of time over their drinks.

Mungos- lively and sociable.

Bote - Why is this free for ladies but not for men?A bit sexist?

Sandy, Gordon, this one seems to have the potential to run and run and I would think Pammie might come out of retirement to take an active role in the stringent testing requirements (I am sure that we will have to work to some European legislation re: standards).

I also think the Health and Safety Exec do need to be alerted, as we are all aware of the potential consequences of indiscriminate nut testing - gosh on so many levels - a full risk assessment would have to be put in place and all testers accredited to EU standard 13a sub-section a.111 and a.132.

Safety net also required, paramedics on standby (mandatory attendence by the local Red Cross to administer tea and sympathy - when you actually require a shot of adrenalin or AZT - clearly depending on what sort of nut tester you are and how many you have tested unprotected).

To be honest Sandy and Gordon, do you think there are enough risk takers out there for this mission, I mean it is starting to sound like an "extreme" sport

No I don't think that this subject should be pursued, you're going to get a lot of hangers-on coming out of retirement to air their views.

you are so right maddi...it is a very complex problem....are they dry rosted or salted nuts?..do you have to shell them yourself?.. are they to be judged on size, weight or overall packaging?.. is product placement allowed?..under EU rules, could jimmie carter toss his nuts into the ring, so to speak?....and, sooner or later, the subject of beach balls is bound to come up....

now maddi,..."anonymous guest" is only trying to raise the bar in this discussion....after all, not everyone appreciates the nuances of nuts.

went out on two occasions. went to Sully's , some Kareoke bar, Jailhouse and Cheers. Found Cheers very nice and Rocking. Carvoeiro nightlife cannot be compared with Praia Da Oura and Albufeira though .I missed the outdoor party atmosphere at night. It's all very much in-house and tends to be a bit quiet.

For those who want to go out real hard I'd say besides Carvoeiro go and try The Strip Bars (praia da oura) and clubs like K'doc, Locomia, kiss.

i appreciate what R guest is saying....cvo is not the place to go to find outdoor clubbing/drinking action...!...and of course thats why many of us love the place so much......you can still have a great night out in carvoeiro with a few drinks and a mouthful of nuts..!

double entendre, yea, there's a lot of it about. Here's my algarve almond recipe: place shelled almonds in a bowl, cover with boiling water for 5 ish mins, drain and remove brown skin whilst still warm, grill/roast for 5-10mins till brownish, allow to cool, add a little salt, serve with cool super bock. cheers
