Escudos can ONLY be changed in The Bank of Portugal, which will involve at trip to Faro or Lisbon!! Only Euros are excepted now in almost every european country, I thought everyone knew that!

You can't change euros for escudos, escudos have finished! You can change escudos for euros but ONLY in O Banco de Portugal which is in Faro or Lsbon

Poor dvdman69, when you have all finished taking the p**s, the answer is that Portugal now uses the Euro in common with most of Europe.

I am glad the rest of you are surrounded with knowledgeable and intelligent people who are up to date with current affairs, and who travel frequently and are over the age of whatever - there are plenty of people about who do not know this sort of stuff - and once again we look bad slating a new user of the forum who may be reluctant to post again. I think some of us already have had enough bad press without scoring points of people who may not be as old or abreast of financial matters as some of us are.

Dear Maddi,

Well said!

Postings like the rude, arrogant ones above make me wonder if I really want to have anything to do with this forum.

Let's hope the second part of the question (about Villa de Barco) generates a more mature and helpful response.

Well said everybody we need to encourage more & more people to use this forum and taking the micky will only p**s people off.

Escudos are still welcome everywhere in Portugal!

I think we are supposed to say "making fun of people", I used taking the "p**s" which is not exactly gracious and CM has just used "micky" which is derogatory to our Irish friends although I suspect the ones who visit this forum won't give two hoots - it is a minefield out there of potential faux pas . . .

. . . and the last thing we want to do is scare off people because they are frightened about their use of language . . .

. . . as I say a minefield!!!!!

fistful of escudos

Post by Blondelle »

Ive found a purse witha load of odd Escudos ---wont anybody take them ?
Would they be of any use -say for charity funds ? Perhaps they could be changed for that purpose--or maybe not.

Good point Ellie, perhaps there is a charity that is able to work with peoples old currency from around Europe. Does anyone know of one?

I may post the question on a couple of other sites and see if old currency can be put to good use.

We have very little here and what we have the children have put in a scrap book, so fine educationally but there must be a more deserving cause.

Unesco had set up collection points in the banks for old escudos during the transition phase, but they are gone now. I was told the coins are worthless but the notes can still be exchanged at the Banco de Portugal.

Alas, this probably takes too much effort. :(
