We have some guests coming down from Lisbon via the motorway and they asked if there was anywhere of note where they could stop for a coffee and a break from the drive down. Not having done this route myself I wondered if anyone has had some pleasant stop offs they could pass on.

We did the drive at Easter and did it in 2 hours each way, so a stop wasn't necessary, however there are plenty of service stations en route and I think they are nicer than those you find in the UK.

The cost of the toll on the new motorway is about 15 euro, tell them to make sure they get a ticket at the start of the motorway, or they will get charged about 80 euro for not having one when they get off!!
