Michael is right about the info available in FAQs but I know it also seems a bit daunting as there is so much info.
Shame they will not have a car as that is the best way to explore the area. There are several tour operators offering coach trips to various destinations during the peak months - offices down in the centre of town - but not sure whether they have enough custom to run at this time of year. Would definitely recommend a trip to Silves - local buses go to Lagoa from where you can buses to Silves, Portimao etc I think, probably to Algarve shopping as well. If they like walking the local English language paper publishes regular walks with a guide - serious stuff tho' - not just a gentle potter!
Might be worth doing a deal with a local taxi as they should be keen for th business at the moment.
Hope they have a good time whatever the weather!

Taking the local bus is good fun because it tends to go off the main roads so you get to see parts you wouldn't normally. And being higher up you see more. A trip to Portamao is a good day out. If the tide is right and you have time, there are river trips up to Silves.

The half day trip that the coach companies run to Lagos and Cape St Vincent is worth going on.
Have a great holiday.

Depends how fast you can row

I've not been on one but I would guess it would be the best part of an afternoon. It's tide dependant.
