Could I get from Rocha Brava to Aljezur in under two hours?

I'd say it's about 40 miles so shouldn't be a problem by car.

It takes about 40-45 minutes from Carvoeiro to Aljezur.

Whats the area like?

Nice, it's the surfer's coast. Aljezur is a pleasant spot with a couple of cafes by the river and a proper farmer's type market. There's a nice fort on the hill that you can drive to, or walk up narrow alleys. All very traditionally Portuguese.

A nice journey is to head towards Lagos and then take the coast road, stopping at a couple of the beaches. Then Aljezur for lunch and then take the Monchique road back to CVO, stopping at the Spa for afternoon tea and cakes.

Can you suggest somewhere to eat in Aljezur Laserblazer. We have driven from Monchique to the west coast many times but we never really stop for long in Aljezur. The way you suggest starting from Lagos wpuld be a change for us and make it more interesting.

We've only had a snack at the little cafe by the bridge to make room for the cakes at the Spa. There's another eatery at the other end of the little park by the river but we've never tried it. The guy in the cafe by the bridge speaks excellent English and is very friendly.

I like Aljezur, it has an authentic feel about it. The wife thinks it's a dump

We have been to Caldas de Monchique many times - but whereabouts is the 'tea and cakes' at the Spa? We have only ever been to the little cafe not far from the car park, and I suspect that is not what you are referring to. Your help appreciated.

I think it probably is the same place Carolyn. It's in the courtyard. The cafe is on the left as you enter from the carpark and the cakes are on display just as you go in the door.

Talking of cakes, they do a pretty good selection at Café d'Inglès in Silves. The one half way down the steps from the castle entrance. It's perfectly acceptable to eat the cakes in Silves as you soon burn of the calories going up and down the hill.

Just before you get into Aljezur turn left and follow road to Monte Clerigo beach
there is a lovely cafe right on the car park they do good meals and snacks and very cheap!
But be warned it is THE most beautiful beach you will not want to leave!!
If you follow the coast road on up the west coast it gets even more stunning. IMO the best area of the Algarve.Unspoilt and perfect!!
