Excess baggage!

Ive started the countdown to my holiday today--5 days -then off to CVO--but i sit here on my bed --surrounded by clothes -a pile of ironing--shoes -toiletries etc--and my head is spinning!
What to take and not to take ?
Do any of you have a "method" of packing?Are you good at knowing exactly what youre going to need ? How many skirts/trousers--shirts /blouses --knickers/pants--etc etc!
Im going for a month--last year I went for same period--and only wore about half of clothes---can anyone help /advise me please?
Or would it be far simpler to book next hols in nudist colony d'you think?
Is there one in Algarve d'you know?

Dear Ellie,

I'm afraid is going to be too windy in nudists beaches. There is one in Carrapateira where nobody wonders how you look like but it's on the Western coast which means - winds, winds, winds.
But don't worry about the clothes so much - take a pack for a week. Then you'll put everything to wash and dryer and - that's it.
What you might need need is - something for hot days, something for cool nights, let's say two pairs of trousers, a mini (oh, yes), couple of tops, couple of sweaters, undies... Hm... Don't know how many. For emergency cases you can always shop. All business style clothes should stay at home - even for offices they dress like for beach here so you'll not shock anybody in case you have a meeting.
And the golden rule tells it's always better to have a couple of good things rather many disharmonious ones.
CVO will be certainly welcoming you, with clothes or without them!

Hi Ellie,

3 weeks to go for me and I can't wait. Never been for a month but I would say just take the same amount as you would for 2 weeks because if you have use of washing machine etc. then that helps.

I always find that I seem to wear my 'favourite' outfits which mix and match anyway.

My only worry is that the suitcases go missing

One went missing the other year so I will be wearing my bikini under my clothes on the flight over and packing my knicks

favourites etc. in my hand luggage so Customs will get a thrill if they decide to stop me

Have a great holiday and maybe we will spy you with your notebook enjoying a glass of wine or two

Hi Ellie, just returned from cvo and took the minimum amount of clothes which was far too much anyway. Depends on where you are staying of course, we had a villa so we only dressed to go out in the evening, which was skirt and top, cotton dress anything holidayish goes, plus you can always wash your undies. If you're staying in a hotel they will do laundry for you. I, like you, worried for weeks what to take and in the end I still took too much. Wish we were going again this year, have a lovely holiday, once you get there you won't even worry about what to wear !!

I'll be there in just over 2 weeks time and I would dearly like Bruce to offer up some more advice. We will also have a villa and will be dressing up to go out of an evening. I hadn't really considered skirts and cotton dresses as an option before , however on reflection it is becoming more appealing. Have worn a kilt in the past so I suppose the transition would not be too dramatic. Just wondering where would I hide my wee dagger?

Pammi, your hand luggage could in theory give customs a thrill, but from previous posts knicks didnt seem to feature highly in your wardrobe

Inga, its never to windy to get your kit off, and im sure all the residents of CVO would welcome you without clothes

Ellie, what can I say - for one who has in the past expressed a desire on this forum to run knickerless, that could easily reduce your wardrobe by 25%. As for the rest of your wardrobe - dress to impress - you never know who you might meet out there!

rod should be easy to find ...he's the only guy with a mini skirt who doesn't have his knickers on..among the ladies, elly may be harder to find..try passing out on the floor and looking up...saves time... enjoy your holls...cowboy

P.S. higher levels of humidity during the evening hours make the use of underwear advisable - however, if you do insist on going commando - remember that Carvoeiro is nowhere near flat and there are a lot of staircases around town

Message for Rod, actually I'm a black male labrador so I don't even get to go to cvo, I only take my pills, lead and innoculation certs when I go on holiday - that's travelling light. My owner is the one that worries what to take to cvo.

Well--for that special evening out, it has to be "glam" and the little black number. For more "intimate" meetings--mmm---maybe I will pack 25% lighter after all.
Sandy --when searching for Rod ---look for the kilt --but with his dagger well-hidden--we hope!
Youre right "G"--there are a lot of steps and uphill walks in CVO--Ill pack just one pair of big bloomers--that should take care of that! Dont you think?

Getting to the origanal thread as we are supposed to do! My wife Janet laid out all of my T-Shirts the other night (we pack tonight) and said "lose or use". The outcome was that I've now thrown out the ones that are either redundant, don't fit (shrinkage) aged, and knackered. So that helped. I'm sure that some of us still pack the same stuff we packed years ago and never use. Moral is that if it don't fit at home, it won't fit in Carvoeiro. Another tip, don't pack books in the case, stick them in the hand luggage! I always dread moving the cases from the upstairs of the house to the boot of the car! Out Thursday and can't wait, forecast is good as well compared to last September! Mike, Chislehurst.
