I am interested in buying some paintings of local beaches, the coast, countryside etc (ie landscapes) by local artists. I've never noticed any local shops, galleries or similar selling anything (although I've not gone looking as we're usually not shopping but heading for the beach or restaurant). Can anyone help?
I'm not looking for anything expensive just with a local flavour.
Thanks in anticipation.

There is a new art gallery that just opened up where the old Algarvida Real Estate agent was (on the outbound road opposite the last apartment building which is currently under construction)
They have a good selection of local artists as well as a Celebrity Vault section with celebrity photo prints, etc.
Maybe you can find something suitable there.

Well done G !
Alternatively, most giftshops/newsagents in the town sell a selection of inexpensive watercolour prints, about A4 size, approx 10 Euros each. Also available at the potteries.
Good Luck

Depending on how much you want to spend Gary and I have bought several painting by a well known artist based in Carvoeiro ,Virgilio Raposo'. Its the Kunst Galary near Smilers. Look for the small street kiosk, going up restaurant hill, sells anything from cigs to inflatables. You will find a set of steps that go up to the Art Gallary just behind that kiosk.
His wife Louisa is also a painter, but it seems Virgilio specialises in the local shoreline and surrounding villages and towns, wonderful. They are actually our neighbours as we own a holiday apartment oposite them.
One of our paintings we have recently purchsed is being exhibited at a Hotel in Lisbon this September.
Paintings range from €500 to €5,000. Well worth a visit and Louisa will often give 'special price reductions'if you are keen to buy. I think it's a well worth investment as this guy is certainly getting his name about.
Good luck

Thanks Gaynor, I will follow this up. I'm looking for paintings for home in the UK, as well as the villa and maybe the office so your post sounds interesting.
