travellers cheques

every year we seem to do it wrong ,
whats the best way to go, euros or sterling and wheres the best place for changing them up in carvoeiro?

same here. We found that if you take euros they have to change like for like so they will charge a flat charge for changing them. If you take sterling then each place will offer you a different exchange rate. We found a nice place just down from the ice cream place in the square. Sorry can't remember name but avoid the banks. One bank wanted to charge me twice as my travellers cheque serial numbers where not sequencial.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year we stayed at Monte CVO and the reception were good enough for me.


Heading out to CVO in 2 days. Can't wait, the weather looks nice and warm now!!!!

Why not use your lazer card? It only works out at two euro per transaction and you don,t have the hassel of carrying wads of cash or even I.D.All the atm,s in the Algarve will accept them.

I thought most people these days either just used their UK (or wherever) cards in the ATMs or credit cards. I wouldn't have a clue where to change a travellers cheque.

no charge and got 1.48 to the pound,and also you can select english which is handy,some banks may charge for this,but nationwide dont and they dont charge for there credit card either..mark

If you bank with Nationwide you don't get charged for withdrawing euros. You also get a better rate than with Lloyds etc. I now have a "holiday" account with the nationwide purely for that reason.

Me to with Nationwide, getting 1.47 1.48 the other week. This is very close to the inter bank rate and no charge
