I am planning on purchasing a second hand car when I move over to ferragudo and was wondering if the car buying process in portugal differs from the english way.
What sort of ID do you have to take and is there room to negotiate and get deals.
I am sure theres some second hand car garage around the portimao area.
Also I was told when diving in portugal you must also carry you documents, is that, insurance, diving licences etc??

Hi, I am sure others will be able to give you more details than me but, yes you are meant to carry all your documents when driving in Portugal and you can be fined for not doing so.
Be careful when buying a secondhand car, if possible take a Portuguese speaking person with you, I do know that you will not see prices on the windscreen of cars for sale as there are two prices, one for the locals and one for the foreigners!!!

You will need insurance, driving license and a copy of your passport or you will indeed risk being fined if stopped. I don't think you will need a diving license unless you are contemplating buying an old wreck 20 fathoms down

PS Sorry ,meant to say,you,could try "Portiusa" at the new roundabout in Parchal,just down the road from Ferragudu.I bought my truck there,they were very helpful and the vehicle has been OK.It would be good to take someone who speaks the lingo as the man that did hasmoved on.

The Faro end of the N125 has most franchised dealers and they have a decent range of used cars.
In Portugal the used cars you see on many of the smaller lots are not necessarily owned by the garage. They are often being sold for the owners on a % basis and so your "contract" may not be with the garage itself.
The usual fiscal card etc routine when buying + make sure the garage does all the transfer paper work for you
