'good evening all, I am holidaying in May at the Laranja do Sul with my large family all 16 of us. Could you give me some local information to help us with our holiday
We have arranged a transfer from Faro, but havent ordered car hire,/will we need it, we have booked thru Villa plus who say that we dont need a car is that right?
How far are we from places like the supermarket, beach, local restuarants etc. Will we have problems booking restuarants for this many people?
There are some youngsters with us who are looking forward to trying the water park that they have heard about, how far away is it, and is the bus service a good one,
and any one actually been to laranja do Sol.

My view, and its only my view, is that to get the best out of a holiday in Carvoeiro, you need a car. Otherwise you are limited to the very small town beach, (and there are some fabulous beaches along the coast), you can only use the local shops, not the Hyper-market, and you miss out on the area surrounding Carvoeiro.

Maybe you are happy with that. We advertise our villa as "Car not necessary..." But we always advise clients to have one.

Whatever....enjoy your holiday.

This big villa is just half the way up the hill, off the village, about 6 minutes walk down to the beach, 3 minutes down to Jaylhouse Bar and all the other bars, supermarkets, etc.
In other words - you will be fine.The restaurants are fine too with children.
You will have a whale of a time.

the villa laranja do sul is on the R. do.Escondidinho, i think that after all we have read, it would be sensible to hire a car, just so if anyone wants to do their own thing then they can and also to be able to get to the supermarket may well be a good idea.

Leg over Lodge. That what it used to be called 10 years ago, when First choice had it on contract. It was a singles holiday villa.

I can remember when it was a Small World villa. My friend Josie worked there, Scottish girl. Boy did we have a laugh!!!

I'd like to edit my post and add that I never knew it as "leg over lodge", I'm talking about 1982/3

Laranja do sul? Oh boy! Do I remember that one!! Even Carol Thatcher stayed there!

We arrived back in the uk last thursday after a week at the Laranja du Sol, with a large family group, of 14 adults and 2 children. We had a most glorious week weather wise, not one day was bad... We have all had a whale of a time. The villa is fine, everything that you need thou a tendency to seem a little tatty ( that might be a little harsh) We did report that a boiler in the two bedrooms with outside balconies leaked so that should have been repaired) a couple of sockets were a little loose... and in our shower you only had the length of time to shower until the shower tray filled up.... without it running all over the floor. None of this really detracted from the lovely time we had...
The swimming pool was used all day, as was the tennis court. There are tennis rackets and balls in the downstair (outside bathroom) ideal for the swimming pool, there were also table tennis balls and bats, boules etc... and we left some inflatables for the pool also but the maid locked this door and we didnt have a key for it... until midweek when the maid came back... We would of liked to play tennis in the evening but although the court had outside lights we could not find a switch for them, even after asking the maid..
With regards to shopping for the Villa, the best place to go is the Intermarche which is quite a walk but plenty of taxis for bringing you back. My daughter would like to suggest that at the bottom of the hill you will find the best cocktails around in the nicest atmosphere Hemmingways. We had a late flight home so had to spend the day up at Carvoeiro Clube du Tennis, where everyone was so friendly and we could use the pool free of charge as long as we had a meal which was very reasonable, the ladies in the party even treated themselves to a manicure or pedicure. Sorry if this is a rambling post but hope it helps, and im sure you will have a lovely time.

thanks for the info bubblybaby4 looking forward to our hols in oct.we are going with 6 adults and 7 kids.was wondering how u got to villa been looking for taxis ect not sure what to do.also my missus wants to know if they have big fridge/freezer thx

For reference, we stayed there last year. My dad was 65 so my parents, myself, partner and 2 year old, brother, wife and 3 year old, other brother, wife and 9 7 and 2 year old stayed

was fantastic

booked again for june for mum's 60th.

we hired 3 cars and barely touched them

there was a big fridge, freezer wasnt that big.
most ants i have had anywhere in carvoiero so get some powder
