I, along with a few others, have rented out the Laranja Do Sul villa just to the west of the town for the week overlapping August/September. I was just wondering what we can expect from the main town itself. We holidayed in Cala'n Porter last year on the island of Menorca which was a pleasant mix of tranquility and vibrant nightlife.

Is Carvoeiro a more family orientated destination or a place that youngsters can enjoy as well? I have heard many things about the town but just wanted some pointers as to what we can expect in regards to local bars, nightlife, restaurants, shopping and things to do during the day!

Hi - like you we have had holidays in Cala'n Porter. Loved the friendly family atmosphere there, particularly as I speak Spanish but I think Carvoeiro is better. More restaurants, better beaches and more friendly locals. Look at the posts on this site and see how proud and happy people are to live here, and I can't speak a word of Portugese. (ordered to buy a place here by my wife who speaks only English with a VERY Irish accent)

Hi, hubby and I have been to Cala'n Porter too but many years ago and would agree with Lincdoc that Carvoeiro is much better. We were in Menorca a few years ago at some other destination (sorry cannt remember the name of it but we were not impressed by it at all) but hubby and I prefer the Algarve by a long shot!

We arrived back in the uk last thursday after a week at the Laranja du Sol, with a large family group, of 14 adults and 2 children. We had a most glorious week weather wise, not one day was bad... We have all had a whale of a time. The villa is fine, everything that you need thou a tendency to seem a little tatty ( that might be a little harsh) We did report that a boiler in the two bedrooms with outside balconies leaked so that should have been repaired) a couple of sockets were a little loose... and in our shower you only had the length of time to shower until the shower tray filled up.... without it running all over the floor. None of this really detracted from the lovely time we had...
The swimming pool was used all day, as was the tennis court. There are tennis rackets and balls in the downstair (outside bathroom) ideal for the swimming pool, there were also table tennis balls and bats, boules etc... and we left some inflatables for the pool also but the maid locked this door and we didnt have a key for it... until midweek when the maid came back... We would of liked to play tennis in the evening but although the court had outside lights we could not find a switch for them, even after asking the maid..
With regards to shopping for the Villa, the best place to go is the Intermarche which is quite a walk but plenty of taxis for bringing you back. My daughter would like to suggest that at the bottom of the hill you will find the best cocktails around in the nicest atmosphere Hemmingways. We had a late flight home so had to spend the day up at Carvoeiro Clube du Tennis, where everyone was so friendly and we could use the pool free of charge as long as we had a meal which was very reasonable, the ladies in the party even treated themselves to a manicure or pedicure.
