I would love to hear of any "travelling" incidents things that have happened whilst travelling, not just inPortugal, but other parts of Europe or the world I.E : something Funny/Exciting/ Bizarre/ notjust meeting up with people but maybe experiencing/seeing the unexpected.
This happened to us on a holiday in rural France few years back!
We were motoring back from St Aubin in Normandy, when our old campervan started playing up.It hissed& banged finally coming to a halt at the roadside.Hub tried hard to get it going, but no luck.We looked around;it was all fields not a sign of life anywhere. Then Hub pointed through a group of tall trees in the distance and we made out the outline of an old chateau. So we made towards it.A quarter mile onwe entered the grounds. No one!We walked around the back & as we turned the corner we ran into a little old lady. She was dressed in dark ankle-length clothesa shawl pulled tight around her-yet it was a warm sunny day.We told her of our problem& she beckoned us to follow-she didnt speak a word!
We followed her into the house, then ahuge study& she pointed to phone& left.I found a car mechanics no.in tel.book& told him we needed help.As we looked around it was macabre-walls were covered in heads of dead animals, the furniture so ancient, could havecome fromrevolution times. We couldnt wait to get out.As we rounded a corner to walk back to the road, again the old lady stood before us.We shook her hand-which she wiped first as it was covered in dirt-it was like ice.She spoke not a word!We werent back at the van long, when a car mechanic pulled up.Wetold him he'd been quick-at which he looked very puzzled. He'd had no phone call!--was simply passingthat way. When we pointed through the trees at the chateau--we couldnt see it!
You can believe this or not--we have been back that route several times since--and never again seen that place--of course--we are famous for getting lost!
Perhaps I should have saved this for October 31st/ Halloween
