If you havent been to Algar seco and visited Boneca bar and the grottos , WHY NOT ?.
Ok there are a lot of steps , not for the faint hearted , but the views are stunning especially from the cave , and the grotto is beautiful , and sounds fantastic.
Plus on top of all this you have Boneca bar itself , which is a great place to eat. Once you have been there once you will return , some people year after year.
Jorge and his family have been running it for years and he and his staff give you a very warm welcome , and always remember you.
The food is superb , the fish beautifully cooked and very fresh , they have a variety of dishes for every taste.
Quite often in the evenings Antonio comes down and plays his guitar and sings Portuguese and English songs , and watch out for the beautiful crafted african goods from Senegal.
This is a peaceful setting outside the madness of central Carvoeiro well worth the walk.

totally agree - I think here you get what is called fresh fish which comes from the sea whereas in Galé (which many of you think to be one of the best in town) or all the others serve fish from se so-called "viveiros"

Its a very romantic spot for a delicious dinner watching the boats go by and the stars out at night

Up rua do Farol - restaurant hill - where Roundup western bar is
take the 3rd turning on the right
At the end in front of you will be a car park , go into the carpark , turn left and stop before you go over the cliff.
As you look at the sea on the left side of the car park are steps.
Down the steps to the left for the grotto
to the right for Bar Boneca

Thought so WR2. I run up there every morning before the family waken up (depending on how much alcohol is consumed the night before ) It looks lovely in the evening and I always thought of going up there for a bite to eat but it does not open off peak and thats the only time I could visit without the kids. I thought it might have been somewhere else. Its a nice spot but no place to bring my youngest (4 years old) or even the middle guy (11 years old) If they wandered off the beaten track it could be curtains

I have been taking my son to bar boneca since we first moved to Port when he was six , just take them for a wander first , make them go up and down the stairs a few times to wear them out , take paper and crayons and get them to draw the grotto.
It really is a lovely place to show the children , but yes you do have to be a bt vigilant , I used to take a football and sit at the table nearest the lowest steps and watch my son kick the ball around.
Try it and see , but fair enough if you are not sure , always better to be safe.

I've been there lots of times with my three year old and no harm has come to him. We eat first and then I take him to have a look at the cave and the lagoon and just make sure he never lets go of my hand. He particularly likes it when we're there when the 'pirate ship' goes by and toots its horn.
