Many people dream of giving up their job, turning their back on the daily grind and starting again somewhere new, but only a few brave souls actually dare to do it. This series follows those who have determined to try to turn their fantasies of the good life in sunny foreign climes into reality. The programme discovers what happens in the process of putting a dream into practice, and whether being one's own boss is all it's cracked up to be.

In the first programme, Graeme and Sue Fyfe think that by putting down a deposit on the Mona Lisa, a cafe/restaurant in the Algarve, they'll be able to ensure a leisurely retirement in the sunshine for themselves and a bright future for their son Simon and his family. They've never lived or worked together before, and with a cash crisis threatening the whole project, the family is at loggerheads before they've even served their first full English breakfast.

Well, I think it is very usefull to watch this programme, because most people see the sunny side off it and some of them are better off with their dreams than others. A dream is beautiful but there must be a shadow side. And a lot of dreamers don't realise that to often. It helps people to see this tonight, the good and the bad things about it. But however. If you want something very bad, there is always an opening for everyone to make your dream come true if you stay with both feet on the ground.

well here goes...it was a bit like a titanic movie...the ship was going down but then YES it managed to stay afloat.

i suppose what strikes me with this programme and the previous series is the naivity of all these ones.....a few months living in the place and learning the ropes might have "saved their bacon".

the previous series also portrayed the problems of moving to another country (bad enough) not english speaking (worse) and then trying to start or run a business (must be terrible)

i felt like weeping when i saw their problems....but at least they seem to have come out ok..never been to quarteria but eee by gum ill have some fish and chips now.

im afraind the portuguese really do have a headlong start on running bars and restuarants...be nice to see other types of businesss starting..if our friends at the camaras will let them of course
