I have no allegiance to either the oval ball of the round version, but don't you think that rugby final was far more exciting than watching a football match.Or was it the occasion of England being in a major sporting final??

Yes Dave---wasnt it just--real exciting --nailbiting--hiding behind the sofa(me!) stuff!
Well --at the risk of annoying footie fans-for a start-there are'nt any "primadonnas"(that I know of) in rugger --and I noticed that the fans both Oz and Eng. mixed at the end --they dont have to separate them as they often do in footie in case of fights/trouble.
To me--it seemed real sport---playing the game for all its worth---great stuff----but Im so happy that it was the England captain that finally held the world cup aloft.

dj, as far as TV entertainment goes, 6 nations or RWC games are a must. But football, even if the world cup final is on, I would find myself half the time in the next room doing something then rushing back in when a goal is scored to see the reply 3 time. In other words football is pretty boring. Regarding other ball games on TV, cricket test and one day at Lords I like but don’t find time to watch the game played at other venues. And the same goes for tennis, its Wimbledon only for me.

Ellie - rugby seems a game played in the true spirit of sport and gamesmanship, competitors and fans alike. The tension of the game was incredible.
digger - quite agree with you - I couldn't tear myself away, even though I couldn't watch either!!! I also like the big sports events, but agree they are not so compelling. I still think it was a lot to do with build-up in this case and the expectation that England could win. You can't say that about many sports we compete for - except curling!

Mike, yes, I do believe Charlton play some attractive football - but what would I know, I am a Wolves Fan!!!!!!!! I think the team arrive back on Monday.

Mike re your query about the arrival time at Heathrow. According to The Times the flight is scheduled to arrive at 04.55 hrs on Tuesday. Probably receive a well deserved heroes welcome! I hope the WHOLE team gets credit & not just JW - judging by Sky News tonight you would think he beat the Aussies single handed!

Hi - Yes Croeso does mean Welcome - as you enter Wales from England you often see the sign 'Croeso y Cymru' which means Welcome to Wales. Only clue(s) - I'm a sports lover - a football fan as opposed to a rugby fan and definitely ONE Welshman that can't sing. Apart from those useless snippets of information, visited CVO on a regular basis since 1998 - favourite haunts being Smilers in the day time (watching the world go by over a glass or two of the amber nectar) & eating at A Gale' followed by a nightcap(s) in Imprevisto.
