me and my now husband have been coming to carvoeiro for the last 7 years and we eventually got married out there at the Tivoli Hotel - and just have to say what a fantastic venue for a wedding it was superb and also had the help of wedding planners which was a good find, both Karina and Paula are very nice people and can't do enough to help you.

and also we had a fantastic band - double cocktail who play at venues around the algarve

so if anyone is deciding to take the plunge and get married in sunny carvoeiro go for it and above are the best two contacts i could give you.

My partner and I are getting married at the Tivoli next year on June 6th. We are struggling to arrange the ceremony as we don't have a contact for the church in carvoeiro and are beginning to panic? Do you have any contacts or advise please?

Just to let you know if you want a church wedding and for it all to be legal and recognised in the UK over in portugal you have to live there for 30 days before your wedding, the service is usually in portuguese which would have to be translated.

So what we did to make it all legal and a lot easier was get married in the UK in a register office with 2 of our friends as witnesses (we kept this very hush hush no one knows) - we did this a week before we left for portugal - then the service in portugal is what they call a humanist ceremony, equivalent to our civil ceremony. They have a guy at the Tivoli who can perform this.

We had the most superb day absolutely fantastic.

Yes - i think any wedding apart from the humanist (civil) you have to be resident for 30 days prior.

You'll find how ever much you search you will get the same answer, thats why its so much easier and a lot less compilcated to do it the way i mentioned, we still looked at our wedding in portugal as being our main wedding.

they have sites on the web - getting married in portugal etc.

That is bad news! I thought the 30 day rule was just for civil ceremonies. Did you enquire about the catholic wedding in a church?
I have spoken to other people who have done what you did however I am worried that it won't be the same as we will already officially be married!?

We have the help of Fia at the the Tivoli however you did mention that you had wedding planners. Were they expensive? Do they live in Carvoeiro?

No its for any wedding the 30 days applies, catholic, civil etc.

Just to clarify as well the humanist wedding isn't a legally binding it isn't really a civil wedding its a blessing but you can still use the traditional wedding vows etc. and it is like a proper wedding, we did the changing of the rings too - thats why you have to get married in the uk first.

It took my husband a long time to convince me to get married in portugal as like yourself and Laura I wanted all the traditional church stuff, but i'll tell you what its the best thing i've ever done, i'm so glad i did it in carvoeiro - i know you'd think that it wouldn't be the same but it really is, we actually forgot that we were already married to be honest.

And the Tivoli really do take care of you - we dealt with Fia and she really is very nice and helpful - and the setting, we had the service outside on the cliff over looking the sea it was amazing - you can't get much better than that. Just think about it, you go all the way to Carvoeiro to get married in a church - you could be anywhere - but outside on the cliff you are reminded of exactly where you are - amazing.

Yes we dealt with Paula and Karina (karina mostly) - they charged 500 euros - i've put their link on the forum - Algarve wedding planners.
I can also recommend a good band if you are going for that - Double Cocktail - fantastic i've put their link on the forum too. They don't live in Carvoeiro but not that far away.

Thanks for your advice and comments. You are right! Where else can you find such an amazing setting. We saw a couple get married there in September and that is what swung it for us. It is a pain to get the religious ceremony sorted also!
I have spoken to a few people and they say it is exactly the same.
As long as the ceremony is just like the real thing then that suits me and it's so much easier.
