Afternoon from sunny Manchester!

My partner and I are getting married next year (June) at the Tivoli hotel. The reception is all booked however we are struggling with the ceremony. Ideally we would like to have it at the church on the cliff.
Does anyone have a contact for the priest or know the best way of approaching him/her etc?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

i communicated with Mark last year about his/your wedding questions - we got married in the Tivoli last october we got married on the cliff there over looking the sea, what more of a view would you want, better than stuck inside a church but each to their own - i don't have info i can give you on the church and i don't really know how you would find out about it, sorry i can't help you there.

Thanks for your reply. We have decided to go for it at the Tivoli after meeting with Fia (the weekend just gone) and conducting the wedding taster and your right the view is amazing and very unique.

We have everything sorted now apart from a band or dj - who did you use?

My name is Linda and i am due to get Married in Carvoeiro Sept 2010. I have been in contact with a wedding planner and she said it might be possible to get the church for the wedding. Due to my numbers i have been told i can not have the cermony on the Cliff , we have 150+.

How many people are attending your wedding?

We are having approx 50 people for ours. We have seen the layout on the cliff and I don't think 150 people would fit on there! You are best of getting in touch with Fia Mighales at the Tivoli hotel. She is very helpful and has organsied everything with us so there was no need for a wedding planner in my opinion.

Mark is correct, i got married at the tivoli last october and there is no way you would get 150 guests on that cliff - i don't know what else fia could suggest for you, she is very helpful though, maybe something in the restaurant part on the veranda overlooking the pool, still a great view.

just another quick message to you - do you realise you would have to be married in the uk first and the ceremony you have in carvoeiro is a humanist service, a blessing if you like - unless you will be living in carvoeiro for 30 days before you get married, this is the only way your marriage would be recognised as legal.

I hope I can be of Help. I'm getting married in Carvoeiro in May this year, in the little church on the cliff. The priest that covers that church isn't based there and is seemingly quite old and doesn't speak english. I have the priest from Alvor coming to the church to preform the wedding and I organised it through wedding planners. PM if you want their details, I appreciate that you might prefer to do all the organising yourself but I'm sure they could help you organise just the church if that's what you want. Sinéad

Do you not have to be in Portugal for a certain amount of time in order to get married "officially?"
We were told that this was the only way to do it. Also who are you using for your evening entertainment? We are struggling at the minute and need some help!

In relation to the residency of 30 days, it's not that much of a problem as it has changed recently for EU residents. You do need to get all your documents offically translated into portugese and verified by a solicitor which can cost approx 600 euros. I think you may need an address in portugal where documents can be sent, our wedding planners said that could provide that. We decided to have a quiet civil service at home with only 2 witnesses because with all the rest of the organisation I didn't want the headache of all the legal side to arrange too. We are having a full church wedding in portugal and most of the guests will have no idea that it's not the legal wedding as it's the excate same down to the signing of the register. WE've booked double cocktail for the music, they're a 2 piece based in the algarve. I did hear them play in vilamoura when I was over late last year. I would prefer a full 4 -5 piece band but couldn't find anyone over there. They had a full recording studio which they use to produce pretty good level of backing track. My partner is in a band himself for the last 12 years so you can imagine the difficulty I had convincing him to book them but even he agreed that they were not too bad. In truth, if we could find a full band that were any good we'd have booked them, but there isn't much competition bands wise over there. we considered getting the lads to bring their gear over but the price to do it would be crazy.

Thats what we did too got married in the UK with 2 witnesses, so much easier than all the messing around trying to do it legally in portugal, and no one else had a clue thats what we did and that our wedding in portugal wasnt the legal one, but what a fantastic day we had.

we used double cocktail and we thought they were great, no complaints at all.

When is your wedding in June - I am sure you will have a great stay at the Tivoli we have been there for the last 3 years. Is that where your honeymoon is too.
