as ive never been to cvo in june or july always may or october just how hot does it get? i feel stupid for this one but does the heat bring out the beasties like cockroaches and spiders?

It can get up into the mid 40s in June and July, and stay in the 20s at night. I have never noticed the wee beasties....well maybe a few Scots

...and the Welsh Bruce..ohhhhh are we being politically correct?
Actually to get back to the question, Gary and I usually go out in Sept and find this just right for us but October can also be a nice month weather and heat wise, just right for those who really can't cope with it being too hot.

I always go in July - it's hot - usually 30-35. Night temps vary depending on the wind and humidity, but as Bruce said, nice and warm.

I have been there once (when they had the fires) when it did get into the 40s - too hot then.

oh my god thats hot when your a pale blue person like me. i go blue and come back white. i would rather go in may but hubby is a sun lover and he gos brown and comes back a deeper brown. reason im asking about beasties is i might have found a villa but its on a back road with no street lights and im petrifed of beasties and if i see any i will freek. i have never saw any in cvo before but think its because its cooler. i did see a snake once on post office hill but dont mind them or the wee lizards.

Have stayed in Caramujeira a few times in July and August and of late in Carvoeiro itself and only ever came across ants and some flying insects. Have never seen a cockroach. It can be hot but just find a bit of shade at the very hot time and take it easy!

Have stayed in various places around cvo in June and July for 5 or 6 years and have only seen ants and the odd gecko (I currently have one in residence in the villa and would love to find a way to get rid of it). I've been bitten by a few mossies from time to time. The flies and wasps aren't as bad as southern England.

Geckos are good....they do no harm, are fun to watch, and only eat insects.

When it is hot there are snakes and lizards about but they would not intentionally want to come into contact with humans. In 20 years the only snakes I have seen are dead ones on the road apart from one on a golf course. It is said that there are no poisonous snakes in Portugal but this seems a bit farfetched to me.

Any big lizard you see will be running for cover. Small lizards live in pool rooms etc and very occasionally get into a house. You can collect them with a glass and some paper or cardboard if you can't shoo them out. Chamelions seem to be here all year round but they are quite slow and non threatening.

The thing to avoid is the processionary pine moth caterpiller. They can cause a nasty skin irritation but I think that they will be gone by July. There are signs of the nests in the pine trees at the moment.

I won't mention rats, bats and sharks!

did you see the size of that lizard omg that looks huge ive only seen wee ones. we had two at the villa last year and one morning we looked up and there was a itiy bity one beside them and i said oh look they made a baby one only proplem was kids wanted to know how, sould have keeped my mouth shut.

Rather have six geckos than one mozzie !

Geckos are good things to have in the house, they eat the pesky flies & mosi's.

The weather stats for Algarve (Faro) quote average max for July and August of 28C. The max temperature for 2008 was 32.5C. The problem is not usually shade temperatures, but sun temperatures. It can be mighty powerful in mid-summer. And we have 2 geckos, 1 inside and 1 in the covered patio, that have been with us since we bought the villa 4 years ago. Wouldn't want to live without them.

Have lived here 7 years , and have only ever seen spiders in house during wet times in the winter , they do get the hump when I sweep them out the door. Never seen any during warm weather .
And with regards to snakes , the most prevelant time to see them is mating time ( squashed or on the move ) , this can be from end of may to july , depending on temperature waking up the old snaky hormones.
Venom - yes , there was an article in i think the resident many years ago , but they are the tiny ones , whos mouths are smaller than little finger tip ( and not deadly apparently !! )
I have never seen a small snake all the time I have lived here ( except Krazy world - is that advertising ??? ) , few big uns ( squashed ).
