Hi we are due to return to Carvoeiro in August for a family holiday, can anybody tell me what the general price is for a beer in the restaurants & bars this year , thanks

Budget on E2.50 or £2.25 ( local brands ) and you wont be far out.

And probably about 50 to 60 Euros for a meal, drinks etc for a family of four, at leat that is what it was last year proably extra 10 on top this year!!!!

I would really like to know where you go for a meal for 15 euros head incl drinks, we budget for 25 euros/head and that usually is for 1 large beer , bottle wine ( 13 euros max ) plus coffee and two courses.

I could have done with a price update before i came in May this Year..

The old Euro was only 1.06 but at least the 1.15 now and going up is good. It does make a difference.

I was quite suprised by the drink prices. That is a good way! The average pint is 2.50 - 3 euro. But i was generally drinking bottles of the local Cristal. 1.30 - 1.50 a bottle. Lovely crisp taste i think.

Meals out will vary. For a couple - A Two course meal with a bottle of wine is usually 40 - 50 euro.

You can go much cheaper if you want. alot of places will do burgers and chips and fish and chips for between 4 - 6 euro.

The Phoenix nites pub was doing a Three course meal with a drink for 8.95! ( I think this is still on!) That is a ridiculous price and i must say the food was quite good. Give it a go if your passing by.

I must finally say that the Jailhouse had a good vibe when i was there. A nice mixed crowd in there and i enjoyed the music and the banter.

Roll on September for the return!

We have been here for just over 2 weeks and have eaten in moderately priced establishments (O Stop, Vale do Milho Restaurante, Mona Lisa, Villa Medici, Maxines) - averaging €35 per head.We have BBQ'd most nights at a fraction of the cost of eating out - making the whole exercise very affordable.

The tourist exchange rate is not the €1.15 quoted earlier - it is in the region of €1.08.

The UK rate is close now E1.12 and obviously you can get better buying fwd or using your Nationwide debit card.
rate closed at over E1,17 on friday and the markets are still forcasting further improvement.

BBQ around the pool and then a walk into town for a couple of late drinks is the best way to holiday.

Leaving funds for a couple of special nights out.

As women are not genitically equipped to BBQ food thay cannot complain about having to do the cooking when on holiday.
A cold beer is also one of the essential tools when BBQing.

EMM - you're pushing on an 'open door' - no convincing needed here. With another 3 weeks to go - there will be plenty of BBQ smoke wafting around.

The actual tourist exchange rate on Friday was 1.15 with Thomas cook in their shops. That is what you will buy at. I am based in London and the currency exchanges around the city were also 1.15.
I have just come in today and the exchanges are offering 1.16 as the euro has hit 1.18 earlier.
It is best to exchange before you go at the moment and i would go with Thomas cook exchange if you can.

The 1.08 in the town is a big Rip off! The banks will charge around 1.12 - 13 when you withdraw from the ATM.

The €1.08 was at Gatwick last Wednesday - North Terminal.

Sometimes its unavoidable but if you really want to get ripped of change your sterling for Euros or any currency at the Airport
forex desks.
Also providing there is no movement in Exchange rates avoid weekends as the rate offered is usually better at the start of the week when there is less business about.

Just been up to Vale De Milho Golf Club Clubhouse there doing a special credit crunch lunch or early dinner.
Choice of starters and main courses for 10.00€ pp ( I had prawn cocktail & fish & chips) very good value.
Also sunday lunch 2 courses for 12.00€
The have also reduced there green fees and bar prices
A few of the restaurants and bars in Carvoeiro town could learn that reducing there prices could increase there income.
It was a pleasent surprise that I wasnt expecting .
