Hi
Does anyone know if there are any more wifi hotspots in Carvoeiro? As far as I can see there is only one in the shopping centre that charges.
Thanks

If you are a regular visitor, then it is easier to spend 50 euros on a vodafone mobile broadband dongle (which gives 400Mb of download) then costs 10 euros for each 400Mb after that. Then you can use it wherever you like. You can buy them from Algarve Shopping in Guia - I get my top ups from Intermarche although you can also get from via the multi banco.

Yes, Hemingways do offer free wi fi connection to all customers.
The only problem I found was that after about an hour my screen went all blurry and started moving around.
The keys on the keyboard starting changing into different positions so that typing becaem veyr unprudctable and

Yes - Hemingways does have wifi, but I found that it was a little inconvenient to wander around with my netbook every time I wanted to check email etc. It is now so cheap to have mobile internet, that it is definitely worth the initial investment. And all you need to buy is the Sim (which costs 10/12 euros) once you have made the original purchase of the dongle - so you can go to any country you like and use the netbook.

Hi Thanks for your replies.
Will I have to buy the dongle in Portugal or can you use one from the UK? I'm guessing the UK one would be very expensive like using your mobile abroad?
Does the Vodafone dongle come with a built in sim card or can it be used with other sims? i.e. my parents go to Tenerife each year, would they be able to buy a sim in Tenerife to use with the dongle or would the Portugal one work there as well? I've looked on the web for these answers but i'm not getting anywhere. If you have any further advice that would be great.
Thanks

I have a vodafone Uk dongle that should have been OK to have a portuguese sim put in, but the man int he shop could not get it to work (although he did try very hard). I coudln't do it either. So I have a UK dongle and a portuguese dongle with their own sims. You should be able to buy a sim in tenerife and put it in the portuguese dongle.
I think my problem was my netbook rather than the dongles being a problem as in theory you only need to buy one dongle and then just have a variety of pay as you go sims.

There is info on how to unlock any dongle so you can use it in any country and with any sim service provider. No need to have two dongles when one unlocked one will work everywhere.
There are not many wifi spots in Carvoeiro. No free ones that I know of. If you drive to Lagoa, there is a free one outside of the sports centre next to the swimming pool. Also there is a free one in Silves at the town offices just below the church beside the fortress. Check the F.A.Q's on this forum for more listings.

I think the new wrap/cafe place is advertising wifi and may be free but not 100% sure. However, cannot remember the name of the place.....'fresh'? (its the one with the green tables outside)

How about MaJa's? If they don't perhaps they could?

If you happen to be in the Albufeira area - there is free wi-fi in and around the grounds of the camara (town hall).
There is also free wi-fi in the main square of Portimao (the square with the underground car park beneath it).
Both places have handy benches to sit on with your laptop.
