As you know following our forthcoming CVO trip in May/June, we are staying in the Lisbon area for the first time in July, we have a villa for two weeks and as well as doing the historical and cultural sites we need to entertain the kids, obviously they are happy with the beach and the pool at the villa but is there a waterpark in the Lisbon area?

Can't find anything on Google, so perhaps not, can you help?

there was a water park in the Lisbon area, but as far as I know it got shut down due to lack of safety.

For the kids, I would definetly suggest a rollerblade run around the Centro Cultural in Belem (rental shop on the north side), Feira Popular at Entrecampos should keep them busy (and your funds plummeting) for a few hours, movies are all in english, so no problem there...what else....I'll let you know if I think of something.

after doing the obvious, you must take the kids to:

1. Parque das Nacoes (Orient metro) for a lunch.
2. Go west (from Cais de Sodre in downtown Lisboa) by train to Estoril and Cascais
3. Sintra is a must.

I did say waterpark after I have dragged them around every site of historical and cultural interest I can find. Stuff like waterparks are the pay off for not showing me up when being forced to look interested in a cathedral for three hours.

As is Golf, Maddi, and they both need a lot of water.

cant think of water park..but sort of related is the oceanerium...it is really very very good..look at the paques of nations website...its about 12 euros to get in

also dont forget to go the 8 floors el corte ingles department store and have lunch on the top floor overlooking lisbon

final tip use the metro...very clean, runs just below the surface and a day ticket is about 2 euros

Wow, everyone, thanks for your help, I will do my research now and try and have a look at all these places on the web, and then work out a "best of both worlds" itenery. As the children are teenagers, is it possible to leave them doing something they think is fun while we explore a nearby toursit attraction that they won't like?

We are actually staying in Verdizela, which was where I found the best value villa and we have hire cars for the whole time we are there to travel around a bit, we know we have to travel to really see anything gorgeous. Out of interest, does anyone know if there any restaurants you can walk to in the area, obviously we have the cars but it would be nice if possible to go out a couple of times without having to drive?

also, I think that funfair that G mentioned is closing down/moving out of town

Verdizela, a very rural area on the south margin, quite a bit down the road from Caparica - you will need a car for everything other than beaches and a couple of local bars and restaurants.

Be careful when driving towards Lisbon from there, traffic on the bridge is havoc inbound from 7:30 untill 10:00 and outbound from 17:30 untill 20:00.

They have been wanting to move the feira popular for some time now...dont know whats happened there.

We had worked out that we would and am alway happy to drive through the day and most evenings but would like a couple of evening where we can eat and drink ( ) out without taking the car hence the question!

Maddi, when you said you’re staying in the Lisbon area, I had no idea you’d be the “wrong” side of the river!!! I haven’t found that waterpark for you yet, but I think you should take a look at http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfis ... %2Fwebsite (that’s www.m-almada.pt through babelfish). And may I suggest when visiting Lisbon you try the ferry from Almada to Cais Sodre and you’re within walking distance of the centro. And there’s another ferry from down there somewhere (never tried it) to Belem. There’s a trainline running along the costa, that I mentioned before, from Lisbon to Estoril, Cascais and other nice places.

Thanks for the information, I have so much research to do now. We were originally planning to stay near Guincho but following a bit a of research and very nice and long chat with the pleasant couple who own the villa, we discovered that the reason we coud afford it was that they lived there too!!!!

Hence finding something else, which looks lovely - 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large pool (well 12 x 5 which isn't bad), table tennis, large grounds, £1000 per week in the school summer holidays, which as you know is excellent value but not in our first choice location. But where ever we were on the days which weren't pool or beach days we would have had to get in the car so it is not the end of the world.
