Restaurants open in January

Post by timake »

Does anyone know if casa do pasto escondidinho (denis's) restaurant on quinta paraiso is open in january. My parents will be arriving on Sunday and will be lost without it. Alternatively, if anyone has any good suggestions for any other nearby restaurants open in January they would be gratefully received.

Try Casa Alagarvia on restaurant hill. Good food at reasonable prices and friendly service.

Also Algarve 2000 at Centianes. They have an Indian chef and the curries are superb.

Algarve 2000 will be closed for the winter.

The closest equivalent to dino's, is O Branco on the main road, but not sure if it plans to open for January.

Contrary to what Barry Wallis wrote Algarve 2000 was open a couple of days ago and the owners George and Karen did not mention that they had any plans to close for the winter!

Barry Wallis has an agenda when it comes to algarve 2000. He should know it's not closed as he lives round the corner from it! But to say it is closing without checking is nasty.

He has been badmouthing poor george and his partner Karen on this site for years about the food. Why does he hide behind an email with his comments!

Algarve 2000 has had a promotion on the local radio for months and have been doing very well serving up great food at good prices cooked by there very competent Indian chef.

None other than Sir Cliff Richard was eating there last month!

Smitsy........if you are going to push out nasty accusations......at least get the name right!!

For the record, if you read the Eat Algarve restaurant website, I wrote a very fair review of Algarve2000

Whilst George is very friendly and charming, he does not enjoy the highest of reputations in the area, and he is well known I assure you, for some very interesting business ventures....I put it no stronger than that.

Also....you have never, or will never hear a bad word about Karen from me. We have been friends for over 7 years. She is the engine behind the restaurant and bar part of that business, and I like and admire her.

So Smitsy......before you slag ME off....get your own facts something like right!!!

Ohhhh, I'm not in CVO at the moment.....but the last time I saw George and Karen, they told me that they would be closing until at least February.
If that changed....fine,,,,,but I was simply passing on what they told me at the time.

As you seem to know me......you must introduce yourself some time.....or do you only do your backstabbing behind a pseudonym........mine is at least done in my own name

I am bored and therefore intrigued. Who is Brand new customers only - everyone appears to hate them (and can see why for the most part) - assume they are a regular user using a different alias. And Smitsy only seems to have one topic of conversation - Algave 2000. Is he an alias as well?

And why do I care? Tomorrow back at work, so probably won't cross my mind again. In the meantime, however, anyone care to enlighten me.

Oh - and why do they dislike Bruce Wallis?

I'd suggest O Branco as the nearest equivalent to the Casa do Pasto Escondidinho and it seems to have been open for much of the holiday and as it caters largely for the Portuguese will no doubt be open most of the time. The menu may be a bit limited but it's great value.

I think Elliotts will be open and don't forget Ma Jas.

I know how important it is for you to impress your parents about the local foods you have there. I share the sentiments of entertaining mothers who always wants their son to eat the best food around. The best preparation to do is to reserve a table earlier, I am sure they will give you special treatment if you tell them your story, they might even give you compliments. Deep Fryer

Whilst I have never ben to O Branco , their "cheap" menu only seems to be at lunch time : in the evenings, it looks very quiet. We would recommenr A Paleta in Lagoa as an alternatve. Very welcomiong with good , fairly priced meals. Veg soup is 1.5 , chicken 5.5, golden bream about 8 with a bottle of wine 4.5. Thoroughly recomended.
