Well the snow has finally reached my part of north london ( 2 inches of it) and as usual the place has come to a standstill
I was talking to friend from Canada and he couldnt believe the problems we have here. Could you imagine if we got even half of the snow that they get in Canada what would happen

Much of the USA was covered by a foot of snow this week. However, this was our second or third large snow fall of the year. Usually, the first snow fall as folks sliding all over with their car. Because it has been a few months since they have driven on ice and snow. By this time of year, it is no prob.

Many folks drive high clearance vehicles. Jeeps, trucks. Nothing more pitfull than to watch a BMW hit a pile of snow and get high-centered. You need to give up the 'lookin good' image and be practical.

Following my day of brilliant sunshine with sub zero temperatures, we are now in the middle of an almighty hail and rain extravanganza with large doses of thunder and lightening for effect - rather spectacular - me thinks

Just watched the East of England news (from sunny Cvo!) and 33 out of 38 schools remained closed in East Anglia!! Ooohh bless them!

I never recall any of my schools closing cos of snow and it used to really snow then (didn't it?) - am I old and senile or are we fostering a nation of softies? (please send answers in confidence!)


Come on Mr Blair give us an answer - is it Great Briatin or Softy Britain?!

Loretta, I just could not skip by your post without commenting on it. I live somewhere in Northern USA and I feel this has been the worst January in recorded history. Since day one we have had between a foot to 2 feet of snow with no reprieve. The temp in fahrenheit has hovered between 10 above to 20 below (I'll let you do the math in celsius). With the chill factor it sometimes reaches 25 to 30 below. Our highway department crews are out everyday trying to keep our roads clear. So to say the least, I would settle for London anyday with its 2 inches of snow. Regards, Will 2 P. S. The Algarve is going to look like a bit of paradise to me next month...

It wasn't THAT warm - just nice really and after all, we do all share the same sun so it WAS up above you some place (tee hee!)

Not to be crepe hanger but . . . didn't I once hear that Europe gets the weather from North America about 3 - 6 weeks after. Yikes! If so, that means I am going to have to go through all this stuff - 30 cm snow yesterday, -20C - all over again when we arrive in CV in a weeks time. Hopefully, not. At least, it will come down in the form of rain. Still, hope it takes 6 weeks, not 3!!!

Excuse me, what's all this about nice weather in Carvoeiro, did I not see rain on the weather cam yesterday!!!?? Dave.

We had very heavy rain overnight on Tuesday, we even had a power cut, but it was dry yesterday during daylight and lunchtime was really hot.

OK, then - just jealous!!!

It's quite cloudy at the moment and the forecast isn't that good for today and tomorrow with rain predicted, but then it is January after all!
