Evening all you lucky people of Carvoeiro. I have been browsing the forum and have been looking at restaurants in the Silves area. Although we enjoy the variety on offer on restaurant hill we have a car and would like to try somewhere a little different. Does anyone know what O Alambique is like?

I can do nothing but compliment the place it is a wonderful place for a very good meal, Mondays they have a set menu as they have a Brazilian guy singing and playing guitar which is very good. Other days the menu is very varied and good.

The owner/chef is a lovely German lady who is so very nice and will come and talk to you at the table to ask if all is OK, we always eat here when we come out and have not had a disappointing meal yet. Do go and try it and see what you think.

we have just returned after the easter break and went to Monchiqueiro 1 e 2 this restaurant is on the left just before the cork museum, also there is a sister restaurant called O'Recanto at the back of the castle. you can see the castle walls from the large terrace and at night with the castle lit up it looks lovely. The food is good too and mainly Portugese eat there.

If you go to Alcantarilha and park near the church there is a restaurant called Casa de Pasto A Cisterna but they do a lovely lamb dish that just melts in your mouth you have to order 24hr in advance. tel 282 313 707. Wish I was having that tonight for dinner instead of sausages.

Try the restaurant, I cannot remember it's name, on the other side of the Roman bridge to the main road through Silves (it is the only building there). The restaurant is downstairs. Good Portugese food at a very good price. Also try O Cais which is also by the Roman Bridge but on the main road. They too have great Portugese food at a reasonable price. Finally for chicken piri-piri try the restaurant with the big stainless steel barbeque outside on the main road by the market.

Many thanks to you all for these suggestions. Not sure we can manage them all in a week, however when we return for 3 weeks in the summer they will all be on our list.

do you mean the one with the yellow awning and tableclothes if so the chicken piri piri is great there Bugsey and the old ladies that own it are sisters and they have been there for over 30 years.

The restaurant by the old roman bridge is called O Romano's big redish building we did not find it be very good and several of our friends who live locally have also eaten there and not had a good meal yet. This is the only restuarant in over 5 years that we have been to that would never go back to again. and we are over 5/6 times a year and always eating out.

Another good one is O Barrada, on the old Silves/ Lagoa road.
If you come out of Silves and take the road to the railway station, go over the railway crossing and its about half a mile further on.

Yes the chicken piripiri restaurant is the one with the yellow awning and is owned by one family. I believe the son is now serving. As for the one by the Roman bridge we did have two good meals there this year.

Yes he is serving and the one doing the cooking is also part of the family.

We prefer the piri piri at O cais, not the quickest service but then everything is fresh, very reasonable prices and we really must try some of their other specials.
Live music some sunday lunchtimes and Fado nights.
