Hi, Anyone know which cruise ship was in Portimao yesterday.

I remember seeing the Eurodam berthed at Portimao last year also - obviously becoming a regular visitor.

My dad went on one of these expensive round the world cruises years ago, when asked if he would like to join the Captains table he said that they had spent a lot of money on this trip and he wasn’t going to eat with the Crew.

There are 3 in Portimao today - Bremen, which is an explorer cruise ship and is the smallest of the 3. The Amadea, which is docked in the actual harbour and also the Grand Mistral which is moored just outside the harbour. In addition, there are also around 4 Portuguese navy ships in the harbour along with various amphibious vehicles as it is Marine day today. There was also talk that a nuclear submarine was coming in as well, but we have yet to see that!

Managed to catch the marines display in Portimao on Saturday. Quite impressive. Big parade along the river front of lots of military vehicles and amphibious trucks. Various jeeps, miltary ambulances, marching band and a display by three Lynx helicopters over the water with one branching off to do special aerobatics. Troop of commandos did a weird half running half skipping march past, they must have been sweltering!
Sitting enjoying a drink in CVO the other day it struck me that a nice medium sized roundabout with a couple of palm trees and a few flowers would have been a good idea instead of the current ´race track´. It would have been beter for vehicles to negotiate and pedestrians would have been more aware of where the cars were coming from. It would have left more of the square available for pedestrianisation.
