We are thinking of bringing a gas barbeque to our place in Carveorio can anybody tell us where you can get patio gas in the area?

patio gas ..not sure what you mean, however just about every garage sells bottled gas since it is the common method to cook here in kitchens.

We get our gas from the BP garage in Porches, works well in the Weber BBQ..... also they have the see through gas bottles which are great as you can see when you are about to run out rather than guess!

GAS BARBEQUES!! Whatever happened to traditional charcoal! too difficult? go green instead of using Hydrocarbons! (or black actually!)

we have to use a Weber electric as we have a covered balcony which is not appropriate for an open fire BBQ.

We used a gas BBQ in the UK as the weather was always so unreliable as we wanted to get our food cooked before rain set in.
We left it behind and now use charcoal like all our Portuguese neighbours, I am probably wrong but the only gas BBQ we have seen in use have been by expats. They do look better though than the half an old oil drum used by one neighbour.

I was a dedicated gas user even though the flavour was lacking. Then I was introduced to the self lighting bags of charcoal and I haven't looked back. (This is in the UK - I don't know whether they are available in Portugal.) Now, instead of covering yourself upto and beyond your elbows with black dust and having a near heart attack trying to blow the thing alight, you just drop this sealed bag of charcoal on the brie, light the infused paper and walk away.
Still got a big gas thing in the back of the shed for village does.

we have a gas one as well as the charcoal one so that we can have a veggie barby and a meat one, never the twain shall meet...

Patio Gas is propane gas sold by calor in the UK. Unlike other propane gas bottles it has a quick release connector, which is why we us it on a Weber gas bbq in UK. Propane is not usually recommended for the Algarve, since it is more suited to cooler climates. You will need to change to a butane regulator, and you will find butane easily available in the Algarve. We buy ours from Intermarche. And for the purists, yes we also have a Weber charcoal in QdP. It is just that since we spend many months here in the winter, the gas bbq under our covered patio, means we rarely need to use the oven in the kitchen.
