Pestana Palm Gardens
Pestana Palm Gardens
The villa we normally stay in (at ADM) is booked for the first 2 weeks of August and we were looking at Pestana Palm Gardens as an alternative.
Has anyone been there before and would you recommend it?
Or are there better alternatives?!

Pestana Palm Gardens is not really close to Carvoeiro, It says it is Porches but is almost on the edge of Armacao da Pera.
Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
no, Pestana Palm gardens is indeed close to Carvoeiro, on the coast road between The Almansor hotel and Centiannes beach; a sort of apart hotel affair, it's where Pimenta Preta restaurant is; bit like a small holiday village with lots of shared pools.EMM wrote:Pestana Palm Gardens is not really close to Carvoeiro, It says it is Porches but is almost on the edge of Armacao da Pera.
Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
Thank you for that, I was thinking of the big Pestana hotel further east.

Strewth! It's not exactly what I would call cheap!
I'm now starting to panic - the whole of CVO seems to be booked up!
Has the global economic downturn not affected holiday rentals in Carvoeiro?!

You will find that the better accommodation is booked out for July and August by the end of January, as families look to get booked up for the school summer holidays, and to enable people to get the best flight deals.
Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
I did a search on the site I linked above Mrs B, threw up quite a selection of reasonable stuff, no need to panic (yet)mrs-b wrote:Strewth! It's not exactly what I would call cheap!

Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
I've stayed at the Palm Gardens 4 or 5 times for up to a week/or 10 days but only over the New Year period or in February or March for a few days so I don't know what it's like in high season. Out of season it's been good value and nice accommodation - we always seemed to get more rooms than expected although I seem to remember someone saying there weren't any 1 bed appartments despite the fact that they always came up when we went to book.
Haven't stayed there for about 4 years. I always booked through hotels.com. Have stayed at Rocha Brava but much prefer Palm Gardens.

Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
We have spent our springtime holiday at Pestana Palm Garden about four or five years ago. Our house was well-appointed with air-condition, an fresh renovated bathroom, a big kitchen and a roof terrace. Very nice: On the back side of the houses there is a big garden with grass and shady trees. From there you can pass a garden door and walk directly to the cliffs.
The not so good things (as far as I remember - perhaps it has changed today):
- There is only one big pool.
- The houses are very clairaudient.
- Your neighbours are sitting right next to you on their terraces (in high season this lack of privacy would disturb me).
- And: In my opinion you will definitely need a car because Palm Garden is to far away to walk by feet to CVO centre (and it is even too dangerous because the road to CVO is not illuminated and people always drive very fast there!)

Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
Thank you for all your comments - very helpful.
We normally book well in advance to stay on ADM, but for one reason or another we were unsure of our summer holiday plans. We are now sure we want to go to CVO, but it now seems CVO doesn't want us!!
We like to walk into town at night and our children have grown up used to the walk from ADM, although we feel that areas like Rocha Brava are too far (why oh why can't the taxi drivers and the 'little train' come to some kind of deal.....?).
So, the search continues - hello Monte Carvoeiro!

Re: Pestana Palm Gardens
We visited friends at Pestana this winter and stayed there for 2 months 4 years ago. Not much has changed
-There is one large pool that was rebuilt this winter.
-As mentioned the patios are grass, side by side with no separator so you are right beside your neighbour. Some have a bit of a terrace.
-The units are nice clean 2 story and reasonably modern. As they are privately owned they will differ in amenities
-Many units back on the cliff with a gate access. Try to get a sea view. Avoid units that overlook the tennis court unless that's what you like.
-It is located approximately half way between Rocha Brava and town and will take 20 minutes to walk by road. We have done it many times. It is a busy road and you need to pay attention on the blind corners. Not sure I would want to walk it at night.
