Dog fouling

Having just returned from our 8th visit to Carvoeiro in the last 6 years, we couldn't help but notice the shocking increase in the amount of dog fouling on the footpaths. Likewise, despite notices erected to the contrary, dogs were being taken onto the beach, normally on a leash and then released onto the beach. On one occasion, I witnessed a father move dog excrement from the area in which they were sitting in order that their children could play near them. I've also got to say that the majority of the dog owners going onto the beach were local residents.

Is this just a "winter" thing, as we've never been to the town outside of the summer months ?. I really hope that things improve as I would hate for the current situation to continue, or dare I say - increase. I appreciate that we're visitors, but Carvoeiro has so much to offer the visitor that it would be sad if what I perceive as a problem becomes the norm and puts visitors off from going to Carvoeiro.

You are right it is a problem as unlike the UK dog owners do not seem to accept that they should pick up and dispose of their dogs leavings.

We have a prblem which we put down to strays but have since discovered that it is a fellow resident in the area ( expat ) who takes her dogs for a walk and toilet and sees no problem in them dropping their load in someone elses road.

We noticed it when we were your 'neighbours' last December. It s a mess and it's like crossing a minefield walking the streets.

I brought this matter up with Jorge Pardal (Junta President) only last week - he agreed with my complaint about the dog mess and has promised (watch this space ) to install poop scoops in Boa vista. He told me they were already in place in the central area although I have seen no evidence of them.
I have found in the past that the only way to get things done here is to continually pester authorities until they do something just to get rid of you. Could I suggest that as many people as possible go into the Freguesia office in Rua Barranco on a regular basis (weekly ?) to complain about this one subject. Once this is sorted we can start on the next problem.

Dog owners are a pest, I suggest we form a band of volunteers to go forth and collect the sh*t in -plastic bags and then throw the contents a the Freguesia offices. I can't believe that the dog lovers are so unaware of the rights of others, ban the sh*t machines and their stupid owners.

Roy, Sharen suggested (when we were there) that we keep a lookout for whomever is letting their dogs(s) foul the footpath, follow them home, and, then, once we'd established where they lived we'd scoop up the poo and deposit it in their driveway.

Twenty-odd years ago a guy let his dog poo outside my front gate most mornings. One morning I was leaving the house at the very moment the dog did it - as the guy left I scooped it up in a handful and said to the him, holding out my hand, "You've dropped something." His reaction was to hold out his hand to receive whatever and I deposited the dollop into his palm.

I went back in and washed my hands . . . . . and that was the last time his dog sh*t outside my house!

We know who it is and elderly english lady or not next time we see her letting her dogs ***** in our road we will let her know how anti social her behaviour is.

Maybe she is even a reader of the forum and will get the message.

We have put bleach down but why should we when it is irresponsible owners who are at fault.

We have a very close friend who lost the sight of one eye when a child due to the parasite that lives in dog *****.

It is an emotive statement but how many dog owners consider that they could be responsible for blinding a child !!

As a dog lover and a dog owner up to 3 months ago, I do not think I am responsible for blinding any child!
All of the dogs I have owned have been cleaned up after immediately, please EMM do not tar every dog owner with the same brush!
