I wonder if any of you techno wizards out there can help with this please?

I am in Carvoeiro every month or so and have to bring my laptop with me so I can continue to work while I'm there. It's a pain because of luggage restrictions etc.

I am considering buying another laptop to leave in Cvo. permanently and I'm looking for a way to bring my 'desktop' with me each visit, including email folders etc. on a piece of software, and then take it back to the UK with me, plug it into my UK laptop and update that and so on and so on with each trip.

Does such software exist or is there another simple way of doing this?

I had the same idea I bought a note book to leave in CVO and sent my self emails with any info ( attachments ) i needed before leaving the UK. Plus bringing out a portable memory and USB pens.
I had no problems with my normal ISP but found on windows mail that emails I received in Carvoeiro some times did not appear on my UK laptop when I returned.

Not being a Techie I now take the notebook back a fwd ,As it is virtually the size of a large paperback it is not too much of a problem.

I purchased a netbook to take instead of the laptop - works fine. I also haveaccess to a VPN but that is not always 100% consistent. I carry loads of files on a memory stick as well.

Try GoToMyPC software and that way you can actually connect to your UK laptop when you are in CVO and I tried a notebook but it was sooooo slow I sold it and bought an iPad which is fantastic!!!

The problem with Go to my PC is that you would have to leave your PC on line all the time you are away - something that you might not want to do for many reasons.

Have a look at Google Apps. This (cloud computing) would allow you to view your work from any internet connected PC anywhere you are. Your files are all stored on Google servers and you update on line. You would not need to carry anything backwards & forwards and you could even give other people in other countries rights to view & update your work. Everything is backed up automatically as well. Many large organizations have gone down this route. Don't get confused with Google phone apps - it's much more than that and is the real battleground where Google is taking on Microsoft for corporate business.

With logmein.com you can start up you PC at home and shut it off when your finished, having saved all that you have done on your PC.

I would second gotomypc. Have been using it for years and use it every day either from home or CVO to access my works desktop and network. Functions brilliantly and you don't have alll the hassle of remembering to synch every file you have used. Also find it much easier to keep all my emails in just one place.
