Only 1 bad thing, first night NOTHING IN THE CAR, still gets broken in to. They punctured a hole in the door to get in in, sods!!!!!
Otherwise a great time and some nice new restaurants.
See ya all until next year.

Re: just back
I never lock the car, no point as they only break a window if they have to. We lock our cars to stop people driving off in them in England, Carvoeiro shitehawks only want whats inside and I imagine they all try the door before going for the window
Re: just back
Left my car in avenidas palace hotel private car park Lisbon, CCTV and 24 hour staff. Empty kodak plastic carrier bag in the back. Car open for staff to move it if necessary and the low life still broke a window to get the bag

Re: just back
It was just so annoying, glad I ignored the advice to travel with your passport and license. If I had been stopped later I would have showed them the hole and said they had been stolen whilst they were sat upmon the gnr office on the hill.
A great holiday over all and a much improved square although now they have change the hill by the ice-cream shop to down hill why cars then have to bear right and go round the square instead of straight across and leave the rest to the pedestrians I'm not sure, deliveries I guess but surly they could have just out a bay in for them.

Sorry to hear about the car incident but unfortunately it is not an isolated event; it has happened to a few forum members here even when the cars look empty the thieves will still strike.
If your passport and drivers license had indeed been stolen then you need to do what was suggested in the forum a long while back and it is bloody good advice. Scan your passport and drivers licence and email it to yourself as an attachment. Should they ever go missing/stolen you can download it,print it, and present it to the consulate showing all your details. It will save a lot of time and bother while you get emergency replacements .I would assume that in the EU it less of a headache whereas outside the EU losing a passport or driving licence is possibly a huge problem.

Re: just back
James, thats a good suggestion. I think you will find many tourists dont know they should have all the paperwork with them when driving, it is a pain to cart it all round and like kenny says you dont want to be leaving it in the car. The car hire company we used at easter showed us where they have done the door it is apparently certain models of cars they go for...
Re: just back
Great advice on the email copy, I usually have a seperate paper copy that I leave in the villa safe.
What sort of cars did they mention as this could sway a decision on which car to book in future?

i'll take a copy with me in the future thats great advice. When you go to beaches for the day its bad enough have your wallet camera and keys int he beach bag but to have your driving license and pass port, that sounds risky!!!!

Re: just back
I shall one day have to go through all the posts to see who originally had the idea of scanning and emailing passport and driving licence as attachments and give full credit to him or her. This is one of those many ingenious valuable tips and advice that this website produces so often.
Re: just back
If you have not done the whole scanning thing....We all have to add API information, if you log in to your booking it provides the information you require as well. Will check up if GNR take it, the consulate will

Re: just back
Hi all
A good idea is to copy your passport and drivng licence before you go on holiday and ONLY carry the copies with you when out and about. Technically if they are not notorised in Portugal or certified in the UK you will be at risk from an over zealous poilce officer (GNR) but losing the copies is no drama v losing the originals which will ruin your holiday! You can get the copies certified at home by a solicitor or here in CVO notorised by a Portuguese solicitor and the copies will be legal. Perhaps residents who read this could help visitors by posting details of CVO solicitors who would do this for estrangeiros FOC????
