Hi I'm off to Carvoeiro on Sunday and we are staying in a villa, however if we require pool heating it will cost an additional 140 euros. The manager says it is currently about 26c unheated with heating will probably be 30c. Do you think we will need it in August??

Secondly Air Con is an additional 100 euros is this a necessity or is there enough breeze to keep the house cool??

Pool heating no...it will be well warm enough, Air con is a personal choice we would always take it as it can remain very hot at night

I have solar heating in my pool and aircon. my daughter is there at the moment. Last night she said the pool is too hot, even though they are leaving the cover off over 33C! and they have only had the aircon on once, one night, the room fans are quite sufficient. Day time temps are well over 30C and still mid 20 at night, so in Aug I would say pool heater - NO, aircon - maybe but NO if the room has ceiling fans

If you replace the pool cover at night it will maintain atemp of 28/29degrees.

The problem with us Brits is that we do noy know how to use aircon.
We have found the temp turned down to 18 degrees and duvets on the beds !!
Door and windows open and the aircon going full blast trying to aircon portugal.

All we do if it is really hot a night is to set it at 22 degrees turn it on just before we go to bed.
Our system has a night setting , it can be set to switch on /off as the set temp rises or fallls

Why dont you put a lable on either the controller, or the air con unit, (or both) saying shut the windows before switching it on!

We did, we even included it in the information pack we sent out. On a flight back earlier this year we were talking to another property owner who frustrated by these problems rather than increase their prices takes excessive use of power/water from the security deposit.
It seems to work.

I must admit, I now take a note of the electricity reading prior to visitors arriving, and if the reading is ridiculously high when they leave, I do now suggest that they may like to make a small contribution towards the extra cost. Entirely voluntarily but people know that electricity is expensive. Of course put it on if it is hot at night as being unable to sleep due to the temperature is horrible. But it is not necessary to leave it running all night with a duvet on the bed as EMM has said! An hour to cool the place down usually does the trick quite nicely

I've been there through most of August and have had the air con on a couple of times at night for an hour (it is on a timer) and that is it.

I had three 17 year old girls staying one night with me when I was there in August. I came in from having dinner, to find they had gone out leaving two lots of air con on, the fan and the window open (despite having asked them to turn off the air con and shut the window before they went out!)

None of the pools I swam in during August were heated - they were a bit "oooooh" when you get in, but then absolutely lovely.

Air con - part personal choice, part villa age & design. We have an old property and the main apartment has thick walls and overhangs above windows, so just have fans when needed - fine for most nights. However annex is newer build and can get hotter, but this faces the sea, so usually a good breeze. Also, during the day if you keep windows, shutters and curtains closed you should find that the room is cooler at night. You generally find that newer properties have thin walls and large expanses of glass, so get hot in summer and cold in winter - hence built in aircon/heating.

If it was one or the other, personally I would go for the air con - was out last september and the nights were still quite warm and sticky but an hour of air con sorts it out nicely

Our friends villa down the road had pool heating which I actually found uncomfortable during the day, it was like getting into a warm bath which is not good if you need to cool down - however it was top drawer for a late night swim after getting back from CVO town, perfect temperature - also recommended with more beer
