Any chance of being shown around by some friendly locals?

Steve and myself are passing through Portugal in and will be visiting Carvoeiro for the last week in May. We have been on a bit of a treck around Europe writing up a variety of music concerts for a monthly magazine back home in England. Any helpful information on what to do and where to go would be greatly appreciated. Basically, "drink beer here" would be a valid and welcome contribution.

Did I hear someone mention a live music venue?
And a petting zoo?
Actually, forget about the petting zoo.

Ps. The Carvoeiro WebCam. Does it have a flash? We were thinking of spending the entire time sat outside that and saving money on developing photos.

The last petting zoo I visited had a pony and some sort of goat thing, but I can't say I wasn't dissapointed not to see any beavers. My mate says he has stroked one once, but I don't beleive him.

So, Ellie - any advice for our time in Carvoeiro? I know how to find the sun, and I am pretty confident I can identify the big blue wobbly thing as the sea, but these 'sweet things' sound interesting. Is Carvoeiro famous for cakes? Sugar plantations maybe? I hope it isn't honey, as bees make me nervous.

How exactly do you pronounce Carvoeiro anyway? I am alright on the 'Carv' bit, but get flustered around the mass vowel outburst which follows.

You must have been looking in the wrong place. There's lots of beavers about, and quite easy to stroke too

No Zac, that place is called Canada.

So I have advice on my next visit to petting zoo. Brilliant. I am sure I said forget about the petting zoo. My fault for talking about beavers I guess.

Lets get back to Carvoeiro.

most words in the Portuguese language are near impossible to pronounce unless you are Portuguese. They do strange things with their mouth and tongue when they’re talking.

What sort of stuff are you reviewing? I too am a music journalist and have seen some great blues/jazz fusion bands in and around Carvoeiro. The talent is, at best, eclectic but always fun to watch.

What a great idea about the web-cam! It definitely isn't being used to its full potential..

I was reffering to ...the best icecream in the world (from the beach palacio)..sweet crunchy..toffee-like almond tarts....mango mousse(nothing tastier on the tongue tan this more-ish dessert).....you'll be safe with the 'mel'(honey)..therell be no bees round the pot

I agree with digger ..about the Port. doing strange things with their mouth& tongue...when I lived there..I was told I didnt open my mouth wide enough...when trying to pronounce the words..dont know if that any help

and 'Zac' seems the 'expert' on petting zoos and particularly 'beavers'...must confess..Ive never seen one..would I recognise one..and do they bite

Is it just the portuguese who can do strange things with there mouth and tongue? My mate can tie his shoelaces with his. I can thread a needle, and sew a patch on a pair of jeans with mine. But the jeans have to be Wranglers. I can't do it with Levis.

Ellie - what was it you were doing when you were told you weren't opening your mouth wide enough? My mum said she used to pretend to be playing a bassoon when with my father. Don't know if thats any help.

So Care - voo - air - rue (thanks Digger) is good for Ice Cream and mango mouse. Sounds great, but we are going to need a drink after all those tarts. Any place you recomend we go?

Ps. You don't know what a beaver looks like? Ask your dad. I did.

Ryan..must say..you & your mate seem very skilful with mouth and tongue...I can just about sew on a button..and thats only with my fingers!and it takes me ages to put the thread thru the hole!
What was I doing ? He was trying to get me to say 'Mexilhoeiro Grande' ..made me stand there for ages..saying 'No! Not like that..like this!"..I never did get the hang of it

Either your double-entendres are far superior to mine, or we are talking about actuall beavers, and my mum actually playing the bassoon.

'Beaver flooding' is the technical term for the result of overactive beaver activity.

Davy Crockett, the King of the Wild Frontier, used to wear a beaver on his head. Started of wearing it while he was still wet behind the ears

To much 'logging' damages the beaver. Canadians really must control the rate they pull their logs in and out of beaverland.

David Attenborough's wife was said to have owned one of the largest beavers in the world. She had it shaved so it didn't get to hot in Cornwall, and let david feed it pork once every fortnight.
