You'd need to be mental to let one of your kids drive around here on a scooter. With hardly any Portuguese drivers knowing how to indicate you're only one tiny mistake away from going home with one less kid than you arrived with...

Well your own actions certainly suggest otherwise on the responsible parent issue
But hey great idea, let a kid drive on the 'wrong' side of the road in a country notorious for shitty drivers who can't use their indicators... what can possibly go wrong?

His transit bus will get hit by a maniac doing 200mph in a Lamboughini?

Thanks for that completely pointless post...
Thats the huge difference with driving a car to a motorbike/moped - I can keep it to normal speeds around other people/vehicles and if I do have a bump due to someone else's mistake I'll have wrecked an expensive car -
but I'll still be alive.

And thanks for all of yours you arrogant tw@t!
My point is that life is a risk, ok the odds are not in favour of two wheels but if the kids want to take that risk, then who are you to say differently?

Sure, if the kid wants to take a risk himself thats perfectly fine - you pay your money and take your chances. I just think the quote "you will not find a more responsible parent than me on this earth" is complete horse shit... you don't get to parade as father of the year in one post but a couple posts earlier you were willing to deliberately endanger your kids life doing something that is, frankly, idiotic.

On holiday to Corfu a few years ago the first afternoon we went to a bar for a drink to see a group of waiting for an ambulance.
Two of the group had come of their scooters , their legs looked they had gone through a food processor.
There was a bend by our hotel where pcs of bikes and scooters and blood spots were a frequent sight.
One of our neighbours what ever the weather looks wears heavy clothing and a helmet when he goes out on his small motorbike to and from work.
Being Portuguese he clearly has a better idea of the risks on the road than any foreigner on holday ever could.

Seems to be a lot of assumptions on this forum, who says my son is a holiday maker he has been here since he was 5 has just taken his CBT here in the UK and is about to take his driving test, the only person talking horseshit here is you octopus, accidents happen in various ways you can get mugged or killed in Carvoeiro which has happened in the last 12 months in Carvoeiro, being born is putting your life in danger you never ever know what might happen life can change very quickly, you never know what could just be around the corner............

Aged around 16 I wanted a scooter to be able to get to and from school without having to resort to the infrequent public transport. I wasn't allowed, as according to my parents, it wasn't me they didn't trust but the other drivers. A few school friends had accidents and one resulted in a 17-year-old boy dying. I think what the others are saying is it's not about your son being a responsible driver but rather the drivers here putting him at risk.
