Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
Just to start off by saying that I am not a prude, travel all over the World, play sports, still go to plenty of Rock concerts, and really love visiting Carvoeiro.
Just back after 2 fab weeks in Carvoeiro, where I stayed in an apartment overlooking the Square. Was with my 2 kids (13 and 16) and was pestered every night and even 2 mornings, by 2 different guys on the corner opposite Smilers bar (where they do hair braiding) trying to sell me drugs. As I walked behind the kids one night, I saw the same scumbag ask them if they wanted hash. I was very tempted to report them to the GNR, but my wife advised me against it, for fear that we could be targeted if they saw us. I have been going to Carvoeiro for many years and this is the first time that this has happened. I did see a police presence outside the Hotel during my second week, with a dog, that could have been a sniffer dog. But again as I passed the corner that evening (7pm), the guy asked me when was I going to buy hash and was aggressive.
I have always praised Carvoeiro with friends and relatives and told them that its the safest place I know, where kids can freely roam around without hassle. Has anyone else experienced these guys and is anything being done to get rid of them?

T My son had a similar experience too but just ignored them. I would actually email the GNR in Lagoa if your not happy to pop in the GNR office itself in CVO and just raise your concerns. I think the more people that do this the better. Only time I was asked was in Lisbon and again I was with my son and stepson they targeted them and when I said to back off ' I'm their mum he just laughed and offered me some too
. Am I right in hearing there been some bars raided out in CVO of late?

Just returned to the UK today after spending 8 days in CVO - we're regular visitors to CVO and I came across one of these guys on Saturday. Asked me if i wanted hash and then continued to follow me by the CVO Sol hotel. Scrawny little urchin - i felt like decking him but thought better of it with the GNR just up the hill.
In the afternoon he was with the young 'uns who gather underneath the stage on the beach and i noticed he went off with a couple of them to the loos on the beach.
Vermin, who i'd have reported to police in the UK but in Portugal i wasn't going to get involved with the local GNR. With this guy 'operating' about 100 yds from the GNR station i can't believe they're not trying to deter this stuff - i suspect they're turning a blind eye.

Hi
Yes my 16 year old Grandson and his friend have been approached on several occasions over the last 2 weeks whilst down at the beach in the evenings, luckily they are quite streetwise, but this guy was quite forceful and even offered them a free trial ! he pestered them for a while telling them they could try it for free before buying any, at which my grandson told him where he could stick it !
If this continues the village will become a no-go area - what then ! I for one will certainly be informing the GNR that young people are being targeted in this way and I would suggest that everyone else does the same.
Save Carvoeiro from this scum PLEASE

Do we have to wait until its too late? I own a property in CVO and I am appalled that this type of behaviour is being ignored
It will deter families from returning

Re: Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
the other day there was a big police raid going on down in Carvoeiro (LSD Bar, Bote ...) and at the same time we saw the guy who works in Galeria selling drugs to someone just close to the restaurant. He walks around every night in this area, heading many times to Mungo´s Bar where are all the youngsters at the moment ... not a really good feeling
Re: Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
In 6 years of coming to Carvoeiro we have never seen this activity or been apprached but maybe it is because we do not look like possible customers.
This is a problem in other resorts ( and the UK ) , in albufeira those who have bought this **** have complained that they have been sold anything but drugs mixtures containing shoe polish and who knows what.
I wonder how much effort the bar owners take to discourage this on or near their premises ???

Re: Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
I think they are mainly targeting more the youngsters, 20's to say young 35s group They by-pass me too now
On a serious note though not sure what can be done and maybe the GNR do know about it and are more likely to tolerate as it's contained in a small town like CVO. Still no excuse though and worrying for parents with teenagers. Any suggestions?\Gaynor

Outside the police station eh! well that shows how incompetent the fuzz are out there, not much chance of catching burglars from the sound of it, get the vigilanties out and scare the sh*t out of them, the local businessmen could surely organise that, recruiting from Poco Partido.

Hi all,
This is what a local young resident told me:-

This is what a local young resident told me:-
It seems the "drugs" are harmless herbs! I am sure drug dealing does go on but give the GNR some credit. They are NOT going to stand by and let drugs be dealt. The problem is the reputation of CVO will suffer so something needs to be done. Perhaps a job for Vosas Intensas??I have reported this to the police already two weeks ago when I was with a lot of Dutch kids. They were between 14 and 18 and the gipsy’s where trying to sell them drugs!!!!
The police told me there is not much they can do as they are not selling any drugs for it are only herbs…. But say they are going to do something about it! Probably the dog!!!!!!

Re: Unpleasant experience in Carvoeiro
As long as there is a demand, there will be suppliers.
The GNR will no doubt have occasional crackdowns and a few people will disappear but the void will be filled immediately, it's not just applicable to Carvoeiro It's universal and the use of drugs is now firmly embedded in our society.
The best you can do as an individual is try to realisticly educate your own children (and that’s not easy).
As for feeling affronted by blatant dealing, report your concerns by LETTER to the GNR, include a copy to the Mayor with dates , times, locations and any other evidence you have, try to keep your feelings informative rather than emotional.
Regards,
Frank
