It is bad enough I need to read your nonsense, you really believe I'll pay for it? Use your username when posting, I am the only one who can see the IP address.

so sorry that our subjects bore you... i thought that an interesting forum produced increased hits to your site and more interest from advertisers.
it is a pity that something like a 20 euro bottle of port is too much every quarter....something like that must be "peanuts" to your operation. what a sad view you must have of us all who visit your site.
and oh by the way i did try and put my user name on and it still came up as guest

I am afraid that I simply do not understand the need of remuneration for participating in a forum. This is not a competition, it is a tool making a local community global. If you had any idea of the time I've spend the past 5 years building, financing and maintaining "my operation" you would understand that this site is mostly build out of gratitude towards the local community as well as visitors to Carvoeiro; past, present and future.
If it will make your life a more happy one, I shall send peanuts to whomever you may designate every quarter, just don't ask me to set up voting pages, databases etc. etc. I think I can use my time better, also on
www.carvoeiro.com
You need to login in order to be recognized as a user, if you tick the box "Log me on automatically at each visit" you only need to do it once. It is so nice when people put a name to their opinions.

Steen,
I agree completly with You!
Let everyone come out with there own name!
"Guest" is so inpersonal.
Just let everyone know who you are!
Besides: the automatic login doesn't work with me! How come?
Best regards from a cold Holland.

Thanks Peter!
Only reason I can think of is that you might have cookies disabled? The server needs a cookie in order to recognize you.

the name is martin so dont say i am some mysterious guest firstly.
i would have thought that anyone would have recognised that a promotion even something small as a bottle of port for the most read forum subject would have stimulated visits and interest in your site.
it is clear from your comments that to you we write nonsense which can be rewarded in peanuts.....well keep your peanuts please.
perhaps those that contribute to your forum are now aware of your views towards us

Hi Martin,
I stand by my opinion, this is not a performance act and a "most read subject" means absolutely nothing in so far quality or honesty is concerned.
I better clarify; so far we have received 8.941 messages or postings on
www.carvoeiro.com - when I refer to nonsense I am not addressing the lot!
Please do not start any more threads with this subject but continue under the first;
"prize for the most read forum subject"

Hi Everyone,
I am a little bit confused

I initially took the idea for a prize for the "most read" as a humourous aside, then as it gathered a little momentum, I actually started to think it may be an ok idea

- however what has confused me is how aggressive the responses have become.
There is the odd person with an axe to grind using this forum and there is a person maybe two who is using the site to self-publisise however I was somewhat taken aback by the harshness of your response, Steen.
Either I am unable to decipher your wicked and very dry sense of humour or you really meant it how it came across.
I don't think anyone undervalues the time and effort you have put into building and maintaining this forum - the whole thing is a credit to you.

Well I'm not letting you get away with that Martin !
As someone who is also responsible for a web forum, there is this myth that all webeditors make huge profits, have loads of time and from time to time (or more frequently) are to be verbally abused!!
The reality is we're (usually) unpaid, put in far too many hours, and do it because we feel it's a necessary service back to our community/users, and usually have an interest in the subject.
Most of us who have talked about prizes etc have done so tongue in cheek. Also sending a bottle of Port back to the UK is probably not a sensible thing to do (she says - as someone who was highly embarrassed when her alcohol smashed on the belt carrying the luggage at the airport!)
Steen has done a
fantastic job with this forum and I for one am very grateful for it's existence (keeps me going in cold UK) !
Getting back to Martin ... you are sounding like a petulant teenager ... or maybe a miserable old man ?! What's your problem
I'll throw you a peanut next time I visit your house in Regents Park
Steen - we love you !!!
Jo

I think if anyone deserves a bottle of port or a prize its Steen. Excellant sight Steen. Being a software developer myself, I know how much work has gone into it. Perhaps when I retire to Carvoeiro I can lend a hand
