We are just back from a week in Carvoeiro, staying at the Almansor.
I had to just write and let you all know what a fab time we had. From the minute we were directed to our hotel by a complete stranger who saw us studying a map, to the minute we left, everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
I also had to let you know what a fantastic time we had at the Casa Algarvia restaurant on the main drag towards the Almansor. We had some amazing meals, with great company, superb sense of humours and the staff were second to none. We were a party ranging from 30 to 65 and all had a great time as did the youngsters there at the same time. If you do go, say hi to Paulo for us and ask him if his balance has recovered yet!!! (long story)!
I am now going to email bmi baby to tell them what idiots they are for binning this flight. We r back there asap!

Welcome to the Forum!

Everyone falls in love with Carvoeiro on the first visit - it becomes a long term love affair!

Be interested what you thought of the Almansor - we've never stayed there as it's too far for me these days! It's very big - is it a bit impersonal? If we use a hotel we've always used the Sol which is smaller -we really like it and the location couldn't be better!

Totally agree about bmibaby!

Why don't you register on here - it's good to have a name!

Jo :)

Im glad you said the Almansor was good, we are staying there for a week next week. We passed it last year and liked the look of it. We booked it through the travel agent in the village Joao Gomes (I think thats how its spelt) and they offered a better price than booking direct with the hotel. Will try the restaurant you mentioned. Think you had the best of the weather, the forcast for next week looks a bit grim.

The Almansor was great, not at all impersonal. We had no complaints whatsoever with the hotel (except for mebbe a freezing swimming pool)!!!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, beer flowed well, it was very tastefully decorated and furnished and spotlessly clean. Another asset is the walk up the hill after dinner to walk a little of the Casa Algarvias' menu off! It didn't work btw, we are doing Buddah impressions and lots of mentions of gyms and diets are going on at the mo!
We booked it through totalstay.com, and to be honest, paid next to nothing for it. It was superb value for money and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Have a great time you will love it there, weather or not.
