The De Borla store at the late lamented Portimao retail park was certainly good value for many things.

Do you mean the retail park at Guia when you say Albufeira or are you talking about somewhere else? If so, where is it?

ALDI are apparently opening on the building site on the way into Lagoa from CVO.

Hoping for Continente, as the other ones are just a bit of a journey. If it is Aldi hopefully it will be better than the one in Alcantarilha, went into it couple of years ago, nothing in it that would warrant a 2nd visit. Lidl near Portimao much better. Visited Iceland around this time last year, found it good for brands not stocked in Portuguese supermarkets, went back in June and were surprised by the jump in prices and the lack of choice, no great hurry back there either. Portimao retail park was terrific, sadly missed.

I have updated the shops etc, maps (LOOK HERE) and would be grateful for any additions/deletions suggested.

It's very encouraging that they continue to invest and build premises during the present economic climate.

Unfortunately like the UK for every one of these new budget stores opened by a large company a couple of small localy owned shops closes as they cannot compete.

In the main, the local shops around Carvoeiro are only ever used almost as corner shops, last minute or one off items. I suppose the larger supermarkets in Carvoeiro do better from the people without cars
Our local Spar shop charges 1 euro 25 for a litre of milk, Pingo Doce or even Intermarche' only 80 cents. QED!

Most of us would like to support our local shops more, but realistically that support would cost us about 20% more, and that just isn't viable.

I understand that the new Aldi is due to open in February, but I expect it will hurt Pingo Doce, more than Intermarche.

I cant see us doing regular shops there, rather popping in to find what's cheap.

We will stick with Pinge doce unless it is better than the other aldi stores in the Algarve.

I have started to shop occassionally at Aldi (although its a bit of a drive) Mainly because, the milk and bread is very cheap, and more importantly the Special selection steak is amongst the best meat I have ever bought. The mince is very good too, so I hope they can stock these items at the new Aldi at Lagoa

And Aldi has men's stuff to look at like power drills and boxes of assorted wood screws.
I like their little French beers. Just the right size for a refreshing slurp.

No its changed its name and location it is on the other side of the road about where the road number N125 is to the right.
Can not remember its name at the moment, it is an Italian name now, will no doubt think of it later. (Conta....something or other, I think )

I will take a look in a couple of weeks when we are down in CVO, if it is not relocated before.

I think it's now called Condotti, or something very similar.
