Does The Algarve Resident Know what Year it is ??

I like to look at the on line version of the Resident to keep up to date with events.
For a paper with it limited rescources it form ost of the time does an acceptable scource of news.
However clearly lacking in new stories it will features headlines realting to crime , security etc.
Clicking on one such today I noticed that it was at least 3 years old.
Does the editor think that the newspaper is giving readers a realistic impression of the Algarve today by giving links to sensationalist stories 3-5 years out of date.

I think most papers used sensationalist headlines to attract readers! I am afraid bad news has a better allure than good news!

Saying that, the Letters to the Editor section can be informative, alarming, entertaining and worrying! The story last week about the local police demanding an on-the-spot-fine then relenting seems bizarre!

EMM I had a look and can't really see what you're referring to... Is it the 'You might like' section? If so then I think it's generated automatically as a related story, like the 'related stories' section that follows any article on any news website. If it's something else then ignore me!

Ditzy you are right there are links on the site to " related " stories that are at least 2 years old if not more.
What relevance do they have to todays Algarve ??.

I dont think you can qualify the Algarve Resident as a "serious" newspaper.

I suspect that there is very little originally sourced "news" or features within it's pages.
I get the impression it is mainly reprints of Portuguese news stories, and the re-hashing of press releases.

Like most low budget UK weekly local papers, I suspect that it employs more people in its advertising and "small adds" department.
That's where the money is.

Having said that......we buy it each week. Mainly for the weeks telly, and what markets are on....and until recently, what was on at the Guia cinemas.

I think there is actually more news and journalism in the Algarve News....and THAT is a free sheet for most of us.

Well, if the links are related to aged news stories then that is nothing new. The BBC news website may contain a story about a specific issue and then have links to that story preceding a year/s back! May even have a previous news link only vaguely related to the news item in question!

It is a jolly(sometimes) online paper unlike my local ones - one is 80% estate agent's adverts and the other is 80% crime and bad news! Who wants a Stephen King novel when you have the local freebie shoved through the letter box each week!
