Hi folks - first time post so please go easy.

We are due to visit Carvoeiro week after next and being an avid Porto fan, I'm wanting catch the game. Could anyone tell me if there are there any local family/Portista friendly bars that will be screening O Clássico on Sunday the 12th?
Thanks in advance
Ian

Welcome Ian . There are plenty of bars to watch it in but I would advise not to go in the Fanatic Joker near Rocha Brava - Miguel is a Benfica nutcase

You could go to the Pool Bar at Monte Carvoeiro - small family run bar - the owner Jorge is a Porto fanatic so you would be more than welcome there.

My son-in-law and I usually watch 'local' games in one of the bars just at the start of the cobbled bit of the "In-Road", can't recall the name unfortunately. We also watched a Portugal international game there..........felt a bit daft, we were only ones wearing Portuguese football tops!

Try and find one that's not showing it.

Sadly the game got switched to Saturday night so I had to watch it at home (we flew out early on Sunday morning). Great result, though!
Oh and we loved Carvoeiro....so much so, we're going back next year.

I watched the match in one of our favourite Portuguese restaurants. Alfredo the owner is an avid Benfica fan and his place is a bit of a football shrine. He has football scarves of dozens of clubs dotted around the place and three screens showing some match or other (without sound so those not interested aren't upset). He was having a bad time. He had seen his team lose the Portuguese championship in the dying minutes of last game of the season, to finish second. Then he saw Chelsea beat them in the Europa final, once again in the dying minutes. Surely the Porto game would be third time lucky? Not to be - once again after leading 1-0, Benfica lost 1-2, again a late minute goal was their undoing. One very despondent restaurant owner, and as a Man. City fan I knew how he felt. Our dismal performance in the FA Cup had me feeling the same.
Actually, my Portuguese team is Porto ever since we were there in the 90s when they had just won their third league title in a row. I still have the Tri-Campeao 95/96/97 special edition shirt I bought at the time. However, Alfredo is a nice guy and after his two disappointments, I would have liked to have seen his team win this one.

I'd by lying if I said I didn't feel a little sympathy for as águias. I can imagine the climax of last season must have been incredibly hard for Benfiquistas to stomach, particularly as for long periods of the 12/13 campaign they looked unstoppable.
With just two weeks remaining, the treble was a very realistic possibility but sadly for them, it all came apart right at the end. Losing 'O Clássico' (and effectively the league) in the last minute against Porto, same again with Chelsea in the Europa Final and then to throw away a 1-0 lead to Guimarães in the last 5 minutes of the Portuguese Cup Final. Ouch.
