I am travelling to CVO on Sunday and staying at Colina Da Lapa apartments - which i have been informed is excellent.

My parents are visiting for a week and they travel Saturday and are staying at Welwitshia - does anyone have any reviews on this hotel - good or bad (i believe it has eleven bedrooms).

Thanks

Oh yes it is. It's two minutes walk from the restaurant hill, just up past the covered market. It's only been open about eighteen months, and looks very clean and tidy. Have not stayed but had a look in as we walk past it when walking into town.

Yes it definitely is because we have been past it and its past Monte Dourado on the way to Palmeira restaurant. Looks fine to us and great location for everything. 8) I would describe it as small and sweet perfect for couples :P

For Mike - please check before stating your case

With its ideal location just 400 metres from the centre of Carvoeiro, the 11 room Hotel Welwitshia falls easily into the small and friendly category. The Hotel is located at the top of a fairly steep slope and therefore would not be suitable for guests with mobility difficulties. The nearest restaurant is just across the road and the municipal market is within easy walking distance, as are the many restaurants, bars and quaint little shops that make up this popular resort town.

The pretty little town beach is within 800 metres and on either side of Carvoeiro you’ll discover at least half a dozen more picturesque beaches, from the tiny Paraiso, to the craggy cove at Benagil, and magnificent Praia da Marinha, with its dramatic cliff backdrop.

Always wondered what that place was - I didn't know it was called that - you live and learn. 8)

There is a place with the same name up near Areias dos Moinhos or Aldeia das Chaminés although I'm not sure where abouts (sorry  ) Welwitshia is a place or river in Angola (so I've been told) probably where the owners come from.

The location given in the earlier reply is spot on. Though we have not stayed there we did pop in after reading a reference to it in the newsletter. We simply popped in and spoke with the proprietor who was kind enough to show us around the general facilities and also two of the rooms. The rooms were very neat and tidy and,if I remember right, had mini fridge and kettle. Did not discuss prices but certainly looked ok.
We did note that the property has an affiliation with a holiday company
[Style] so possibly some rooms may be already allocated. The chap that showed us around I think was Portuguese.
I would be happy to stay there a few nights at the right price.
Hope the info of some use to you.
By the way, the approach from the Rua Do farol is definitely steep.

the name is actualy a flower which only grows in the dessert. the walk up the hill is very steep and as i have mobility problems i found it easier to walk down and get a taxi back. it is only a few euros so nothing drastic. the hotel has been designated only to style holidays but this is no longer the case. the owners jose and amanda are now doing the bookings themselves. it is like home from home you arrive as a guest and leave a friend. do enjoy your stay when you go.
