Has any one got experience of travelling with their beloved pet on the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao?

I was too late to book a pet friendly cabin - boy do they sell out fast !! So I have booked our nervous boy into the kennels. I'm sure he will be fine. Brittany website gives lots of info but no specifics about where you can take your pet once onboard, are there any indoor areas?

We will probably freeze to death if not !!!

we don't have a dog but we use the ferry every year and from what I have seen the dogs seem to be confined to deck 10,I haven't seen any in any of the public areas, I think there is a walking area where you can go to,hope this helps

Yes we have taken the dog on the ferry and not been able to get the dog friendly cabin either.The dogs are confined to the kennels but you can go and let them out and walk them around and there is a covered area too.Our little King Charles gets stressed so we tried not to disturb him too much but there is a lot of barking! He survived but we do tend to do the long road trip as the Bay of Biscay can be rough in Winter.

Oh dear I really shouldn't have watched A Perfect Storm last night !!

I've done it several times with my two dogs, and generally administer a natural sedative recommended by the vet, to calm them down. It's a little daunting the first time you do it, but once you and your dog are familiar with the routine, then it's fine. In saying that, I have experienced a couple of rough crossings, and it can get distressing. In fact, it was that rough coming back last Easter, that I fetched the dogs at midnight and sneaked them into my cabin, which you are clearly not supposed to do

I've got a little Patterdake terrier he only weights 10k, I'm thinking he will slip under my coat nicely !! Am hoping that he stays calm and without too much interference from us I'm sure he will be ok. He hates the car and taking any journey is torture for him. However he's made several a successful trips to Austria and on arrival he's as keen as mustard to explore.
