Solferias
Solferias
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me, is Solferias closed or been shut down. Have been looking at possible breaks to there later in the year and all normal sites I have used in the past no longer show it. Have tried the official site and again the availability shows not available all year.
Thanks

Re: Solferias
Apparently, Solferias has gone into liquidation.
We were in Villa Nova on Thursday night and were told that both Solferias and Hibiscus Gardens are in the same dire position - in liquidation. I haven't seen it reported anywhere but have just driven past Solferias a few moments ago and its in total darkness. There's no sign of any life in Hibiscus Gardens either - but it's probably too early in the year to expect any life in there.
If its true, that's three 'white elephants' within a very short distance of each other - Villas Mourim (never opened), Solferias and Hibiscus Gardens - not good

Wow. I didnt expect that, we have stayed there so many times and wouldnt have thought that would have happened. Its a shame, the staff were always so nice.
I do see what you mean though. Seems a trend for that area doesnt it.
Thanks for your reply

When last did anyone actually try it ?
I haven't been for 6 years myself.
I often wonder when its going to be time to try it again but there were so many bad reviews back then, I've never plucked up the courage.

Re: Solferias
Thanks for posting the bad news. Have been trying to book it many times over the past couple of weeks, with all dates on their website and laterooms greyed out. Haven't holidayed anywhere else since discovering the place in 2006 - Was hoping they were either doing so well that they were fully booked all year, or were closed for refurbishment. It has confirmed my worst thoughts. R.I.P Solférias
Re: Solferias
Our maid told me last week that her husband is out of work, due to Solfieras closing. So it is definite that there are no plans for re- opening
A great shame for every one concerned.

Re: Solferias
I know Colina Sol has featured on here many times but when you add that tale of woe to Solferias, Hibiscus Gardens and the near-miss at Monte Santo - you have to wonder what this is doing to Carvoeiro. Vale D'Oliveiras was rescued not that long ago which I guess begs the question - 'are there too many of these resorts for their own good'?
I also noticed that the Black Stove has gone but is being reopened as a steak bar. It has had a paint job and there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes - not sure what it's going to called as there's nothing on the outside - yet.
Interesting times

Re: Solferias
It's seems possible they were just priced in the wrong bracket - looking at the proposed rates for 2014 it was about £375 per week in August for a self-catering room for 2 people. If you put this against apartments for 4-6 people which you can get for a similar price per person - say £750 - £800 per week for a 1-bed apartment sleeping 4 then is possible people will prefer apartments rather than part of a hotel.
Hibiscus Gardens and Monte Santo (apart from looking like a prison block) were too expensive for most. Maybe Solferias would have been better being a pure hotel rather than competing with the apartment rentals (or maybe they have already tried that). In any case, empty hotel buildings are not good for the town.

Re: Solferias
very sad as we have also used Solferias. indeed the top of our road. shows how often we go up the hill rather than into town.
