Vegetarian guest HELP!!
where would I find Halloumi and Tofu? We have guests this summer staying with us in CVO. One of them is total Veggie (no fish) this can be a nightmare if you don't know where to source this. Any help of ideas please. I know of chinese food supply in Lagoa but do any of the supermarkets supply?
many thanks

I feel your pain! With a daughter veggie it's very difficult to get vegetarian food in Portugal. I have bought haloumi in Intermarche in the past but lesleyjean is the expert on veggie food on Carvoeiro so I would contact her gaynor

Panic not, there are loads of lovely veggie foods in Intermache, go to the isle near the tinned foods you will find tofu and the hallumi is in with the other cheeses, plus you can do stuffed mushrooms, veggie kebabs, salads, roast vegetables, risotto, stir fry, moussaka just leave the meat out and put more aubergine in.
It really isn't a problem if you want any ideas on recipes just ask.

A woman asked a waiter in a Johannesburg restaurant "What would you recommend for vegetarians?"
He replied "Get the hell out of South Africa."

Please consider the facts before making stupid/irrelevant jokes - It is vegans that may have a B12 deficiency - the question was regarding vegetarians.pato wrote:More important than the requested ingredients where do you get your vitamin B12 injections.
Good sources of vitamin B12 include: milk, cheese, eggs, some fortified breakfast cereals. If you eat dairy foods, you should be able to get enough vitamin B12 from your diet.

Yes she does eat cheese, drinks milk, eats eggs, lots of vegetables etc so she is not Vegan. It is for health reasons that she has had to do this but I see there are great recipes for Veggies and sometimes we have a veggie day too.sam wrote:Please consider the facts before making stupid/irrelevant jokes - It is vegans that may have a B12 deficiency - the question was regarding vegetarians.pato wrote:More important than the requested ingredients where do you get your vitamin B12 injections.

Hey! sam c'mon girl I know loads of vegetarians who suffer from B12 deficiency, my daughter is one, it's not natural, we're built to consume meat in our diet, does it make you bad tempered as well? put her on the lawn for an hour each day. Another point I thought advertising was not allowed on the forum, Ma Ja's seem to manage it eh!sam wrote:Please consider the facts before making stupid/irrelevant jokes - It is vegans that may have a B12 deficiency - the question was regarding vegetarians.pato wrote:More important than the requested ingredients where do you get your vitamin B12 injections.

Re: Vegetarian guest HELP!!
Iceland have a largish stock of frozen vegetarian items quorn fillets veggie burgers, bean burgers, etc their haloumi (??) and tofu is cheaper. Intermache and all the other supermarkets are VERY expensive when it comes to anything veggie. I had a lovely recipie for courgette, potato and feta patties if I can find it and remember I'll post it. Got a feeling it was Jamie Oliver or Dealia.
