I usually use Travelrent , but Algarve Driver seems to undercut them by 8%...the only difference seems to be a penalty if you bring back before 0830....am I missing something?
Also, what's the relationship between Algarve Driver and Yor?

Hi Geoff, we have used Algarvedriver several times, (last time was in September) never had any issue with them.

Small print says that Algarve Driver charges an extra €21 for airport tax, whereas Travelrent build it into the price....

Well spotted Geoff, why do companies resort to hiding charges in the small print ??? Makes you suspicious about their motives I think.

Having said that some companies I have encountered (only one in Carvoeiro) don't even mention their hidden charges even in the small print they just steal the money without you knowing !!! (until it's too late & you part company).

We have used Agarvedriver for many years several times a year and have never paid 21 euros for airport tax and always find they are the cheapest.

To answer your questions;

Algarvedriver is not a part of Yor but receives a commission on bookings, which fund this site.

The mention of the ANA Airport of 21 euro not being included is a precaution. No other car rental company makes mention of it, nor includes it in their quotes.
The car rental companies are still in negotiation with ANA but the tax can hit the customers any day.

Hi Steen
Thanks for the clarification, but your FAQs don't say it's a precaution, they say :

"The standard package includes:
CDW insurance with a low excess (this is like comprehensive in UK).
IVA (VAT).
Delivery / return at your accommodation in the Algarve* (*Algarve only free in Carvoeiro & Alvor min. 6 day rental)
An additional driver.
1st Child seat is free.
Unlimited mileage in Portugal.
NEW - NOT INCLUDED: 21 euro ANA Faro airport tax" ( my bold)
...which is perhaps a bit misleading?

There's also the €20 charge for bringing the car back by 0830....which is begining to push it a bit for a 1000 flight.

Will try you next time if flight is a bit later!

There is a company called AV Car Rentals, a smaller local company mainly trading from Amacao de Pera, with a car sales site just the Porches side of Alcantrillia.
They are very reasonable, trade out of the car hire office on the airport car park 4, and have no nasty hidden extras.

We got fed up of the more established companies and their silly games, and now use Economy Rentals, ( avoiding Gold Car!), or we use AV Rentals.
Try them

Have used Luzcar ( based in Lagos) for about 8 years. No hidden charges. Collect and return to airport. Competitively priced. Recommended.

Have used Algarve driver for years. As a frequent traveller to CVO area at different times of the year, I like the loyalty points system that allows offsetting hire cost during low season.
On one occasion, had to use another company because left it too late to book with Algarve Driver, worse decision I ever made. 3 members of staff lied to me about the fuel tank return policy on collecting the car. Did report matter to relevant authority and now going to an adjudication service.
