Hi.

Does anyone know of a bookshop in Carvoeiro that sells second hand English paperbacks. We are looking forward to coming back to Carvoeiro for 2 weeks in August and I was hoping to buy some reading material to accompany my glasses of wine whilst relaxing on a sun lounger beside the pool. Would be grateful for any information.

Hi Tony,

There is a good second hand book store on the the 'in' road just as you enter Carvoeiro (where the 'in' and 'out' road converge).

It has a huge selection. Enjoy your holiday!

Many thanks for that information. I'll certainly check it out. I'm sure we'll enjoy our stay in Carvoeiro - we always do. It'll be a little different this year since we'll be bringing our new grandson with us for the first time.

Don't think opens on a Sunday and Monday.

Most of the charity shops have a good selection of secondhand books and you are helping a good cause at the same time.

Tpically, you buy a book from the Algarve Book Cellar (ABC) for €5 and get a a €2 credit when you take it back......the Donkey Sanctuary has secondhand books for €1 , and it's behind the ABC on the out road. The Donkey Sanctuary also have a good book section at their Lagoa shop as does the APAA in Silves....all about €1.

A Kindle?

Hi pato,

I have a Kobo tablet with a Kindle app on it and read a lot of books this way. Unfortunately, you cannot read outside in sunlight with an HD screen tablet.

Thanks for your suggestion re Kindle Paperwhite. My wife actually has one of the older Kindles and also a small Kobo. The choice of books is more comprehensive on the Amazon website for the Kindle than Kobo's catalogue. However, one way or another, I expect we shall manage, and as it's already been pointed out to me that having the new grandson with us, we shan't have much time for reading!!!!!

One of the charity shops at the far end of the out road was selling 5 books for 1€ last year - we bought quite a number and having worked our way through them, plan to donate them and buy some more in September.

I am sure any good villa you rent will have a plentiful supply of books. I must say, i have benefitted from plenty of good books being left by my renters in the past
