Growing Cannabis in Portugal
Anyone know the law in Portugal re Cannabis growing? last week I saw a large box of cannabis plants - 20 or so - openly sitting on a window ledge in CVO. Is it legal to grow yr own for home consumption (In moderation of course!)

Re: Growing Cannabis in Portugal
Hi Maccasa, seems strange. The following link would suggest that cultivation of such is still illegal in Portugal:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_poli ... stribution
I would also consider 20 or so a high enough quantity.

Are you sure they weren't tomato plants or did they have the heady aroma!
Re: Growing Cannabis in Portugal
Although Portugal has decriminalised end user drug use/possession, the police take a much harder line as they move up the chain of supply.
Cultivation is seen as part of that supply route and those caught growing plants will have a problem. Having said that, a couple of plants would probably, though not necessarily, be seen as personal use but anything more, particularly with evidence of sales, eg packaging, scales, phone records etc is likely to incur at minimum a heavy fine or imprisonment.

Re: Growing Cannabis in Portugal
A friend's son (about 7 yrs old) in UK was doing a nature show and tell at school. He took a small spindly plant in a pot, that his slightly older brother had been given, to school. He said it was his brother's and it was a nice looking plant but didn't know what it was called. The next thing was that my friend had the police on her doorstep as it was a 'pot' plant. They wanted to know why she was cultivating cannabis. As she had no knowledge of the plant she denied this. They then searched the house and garden and did not find any others. They advised that her son did not take up gardening as he had not taken care of this weedy specimen. The police clearly found the situation funny, gave them a warning and took the plant away to be destroyed, if it managed to live that long! Why the school had to get the police involved I don't know.

If you hire some of the gardeners in Portugal that I've employed in the past the plants will never survive.
