Concern in the square

Although I'm new to the forum, we have been coming to Carvoerio for the past 8 years for July and August and love the place. The local police appear to be very keen on illegal parking but not so keen on removing the two characters who appear on the corner, near the square, apparently selling drugs.

We have noticed this too pjc. I am constantly offered drugs for sale by the characters in question, sometimes up to 5 or 6 times in the space of a few hours. You would think after saying no so many times they would know I wasn't interested.
They have never been rude/threatening or caused us any hassle though.

How do you know they are a Drugs? Probably Candle Wax and Boot Polish. Hence why the Police take no notice. All for the removal of cars!

Ha ha, I have never examined their product DVBRO but I can only imagine when they offer 'hashish and charlie' that they are not entering into the realm of false advertising

They should be moved on but it's not enough for me to cancel my holiday, quit this forum or go to Greece next time

We have just experienced the guy trying to sell drugs when we were walking towards Smilers to have an afternoon coffee, the guy approaches you with sunglasses in his hands & offers you the sunglasses then asks you if you want any hashish, we told him no then we sat outside smilers with our drinks & watched him approach lots of people as to which 2 people appeared to take him up on the offer. We are at a loss as to why the Gnr who are stationed 100 yards up the road do not do anything about this

GNR don't bother cos it's a rip-off, the 'grass' is literally that!! Dried grass, herbs and who knows what else! Not the real 'sh#t'

I remember seeing this a lot when I was younger in Portimao with my parents. My dad used to say no and they moved on with their 'gold' bracelets. Now a parent myself I saw this in the square during August this year. They approached me whilst I was hand in hand with my son and daughter. They don't like confrontation. Having passed the kids to my wife I moved back to the individual and made it clear that I didn't want his ' junk' and offered to walk with him the GNR offices. He quickly moved off asking me to calm down. I have been coming to Carvoiero every year since 1985 and share the disappointment of the GNR approach but if the public make it clear they are not wanted they will move on in time.

I remember this happening a couple of years ago, with the same complaints about the GNR. Again what the were actually selling was dried grass and baking powder - nothing illegal. Who is going to complain to the GNR that the illegal drugs they thought they had purchased was was something totally harmless

Was there last week and got asked every day by the usual faces if I wanted hash hish or Charlie to which I always reply " sorry mate but I've got my own with me while patting the leg pocket of ma shorts and give him a wink " First time last week I was stopped by two guys in a car asking me to buy Charlie though , they were patrolling the strip in a dark coloured old Mercedes .

I've been coming to Carvoeiro for over 20 years and never been asked once, nor seen anybody asking anyone else.
