Twin centre - CVO and.....?
Twin centre - CVO and.....?
Already thinking of another visit to CVO in April 2016, but thinking of a 2-centre holiday this time. 5 days in CVO and 5 in.......well, looking for suggestions. I've seen Alvor mentioned many times. Never even visited there, though I did do a tiny bit of research last year and didn't come up with anything I found interesting.
I like the Tivoli in CVO, so am looking for similar. Reasonably comfortable hotel, quiet position, room with balcony and sea view, and easy access to a choice of restaurants. And somewhere I don't need a car.
I expect this might be difficult.

Our family do a week in Carvoeiro and a week in Alvor (Pestana hotels in Alvor good but make sure you choose one not too far out or would need a taxi for a night out)
Another idea is the Tivoli in Lagos, right in the centre so no transport needed.

There is far more to do in Lagos although Alvor is a lovely village with great views and walks. In April all the spring flowers are out and the walks over the dunes are really lovely. Difficult Choice I think.

We did 5 nights in Alvor and 6 in CVO in September , stayed in the Luna Bay hotel 50 yards from amazing beach ( must be 2 miles long ) and a 5 minute walk into town . First visit to Alvor but it won't be the last we enjoyed it . It's bigger and busier than CVO but a lot nicer than Albufiera in our opinion . Some nice walks along miles of boardwalks at beach as well .

As a complete change of scene you might consider Monte Gordo in the eastern Algarve. If you want some gentle exercise there is a flat cycle path to Vila Real St. Antonio from where you can get the ferry to Ayamonte in Spain which, although so close, is totally different to Portugal. You can also drive over the Guadiana bridge without tolls and fill your car with fuel about 25 cents/litre cheaper than Portugal.

Second five days in Granada! Only a 5 hour drive from CVO including a coffee stop. Visit the Alhambra, stay in a City centre hotel (the Hotel Saray is a good 4 * with pool and great location at good rates) wander around the City sampling the delicious free tapas! Heaven.

We have several times had a break of a couple of days up in Porto. A beautiful city with the added advantage of the Port wine lodges along the banks of the Douro at Vila Nova de Gaia. Well worth a visit if you are interested in the history and production of Port. In April Ryanair operate two return flights a day from their Faro base, one early morning and one evening, and most mid week prices are currently under 20 Euros each way. Access to the city centre is excellent via the metro from the airport. We usually use the Grande Hotel do Porto which is only a couple of minutes walk from the metro in the pedestrianised area, The public rooms on the ground floor are magnificent but the bedrooms a bit box like but very clean. Very reasonably priced, central and ideal for two or three nights. Worth thinking about.

Recommend Seville. Beautiful city. Best outside high summer. You can fly direct from UK then get a bus to Faro or start in Carvoeiro and get a bus from Lagoa. All very easy. Seville has lots to see and the food is great.
Lisbon and Carvoeiro works well too.

Dave - What is is it about you and towns Vs villages ?
http://www.alvoruncovered.com/
you live in a village:
Thingwall is a village on the Wirral Peninsula, England. The village is situated to the south west of Birkenhead and north east of Heswall.
close to the TOWN Heswall.
What's your problem ?

Agree that Seville worth a visit. We flew to there from Lisbon for 3 nights then bus to Lagoa and taxi to our place. Only issue I had was regarding the travel time. We were told 4 hours but with several stops (Faro 20 mins, 30 mins in Albufeira) can be closer to 6 hours! But would do it again being better prepared. From Albufeira to Lagoa my wife and I were the only passengers on a large well appointed coach (well, apart from a loo).madaboutangling wrote:Recommend Seville. Beautiful city. It was from visiting Alvor for 4 or 5 years, we decided to buy in the Algarve. Has changed a lot since we first went. Weren't the new fishermen huts or bars/cafes on esplanade!!

Jeremy this Village thing is for snobs, I live in a built up area called Thingwall OK! but it's attached to the Woody and Scally Pensby, don't kid people it's a Village, you'll be telling me my birthplace Rock Ferry ( Roche Ferrer) is a Village next, c'mon get real. Don't believe all the brochures tell the truth either they're all con merchants. Hope you're well. Merry Chrissy. Davejeremy wrote:Dave - What is is it about you and towns Vs villages ?
