Driving over next May, if you had an empty car what items would you fill it with? looking at food items really. I know Roy4eyes struggled to get shreddies a few years back!

I can't see the point of filling the car up needlessly. CVO is well served by supermarkets with Apelonia, Aldi, Pingo Doce, Jumbo, Continent, Lidl and Intermarche all within easy reach by car and smaller ones also within walking distance -there's even Iceland at Guia. There's a similar supply of DIY stores, clothing and electrical goods.
I would keep the car clearer so that the journey is more comfortable.

Most of the stuff you would buy in the UK is readily available here now as more of the supermarkets are importing British foods. Personally I would shop at the likes of Lidl, Aldi, Intermarche, Continente and not Iceland as they tend to be more expensive for the British stuff.

OK on Shreddies now but lacking real ale. A barrel or two in the boot would be appreciated

Be serious roy, you mean

if only we could get a good ale! Best (?) beer I've come across is Argus from Lidl - but actually that's really too gassy. I'm seriously thinking of paying for a suitcase on the plane which I can load with 2 cases of 24 pack ales - will weigh about 25kg so for the off-peak £20 charge it would be worth it.

Think big - bring a plane load !! Might get a discount on Guinness from Ireland if you speak nicely to Mr. O'Leary
P.S. Rumour has it that a forum member may be starting a mini brewery in CVO in the not too distant future - I will keep nagging him !!

I will be bringing at least two cases of Liverpool Light from the Little Rock Brewery, Dave would gladly give me a couple of 9's as well…its the chiller and pump I might struggle with! I know you can get pretty much anything these days in the Algarve but the real ale issue is a case (no pun intended) in point.

For a chiller I used to have a large fridge with two holes for the pipes drilled in the side - worked well once the main keg had cooled down - took over a day but you need that for the beer to settle anyway. Otherwise use a long length of plastic pipe from keg to tap and coil it up in a water bath - which you fill with ice.

Hmmmmm…see how that would work, bit too much messing about though, fair enough if you lived there, will stick to bottles I think. Where do we stand on pine nuts?!? thats another point…dog food?

Brewhouse complete apart from lighting - next week. Full grain mash brewing kit should be with me late September. Just need to finalize malt/hops/yeast suppliers. First batches should be coming off the production line October. Will let you know when I think it is drinkable!

Hi Gordon
Passed by yesterday and saw the new brew house. We liked the way you have painted it a lovely shiny blue colour
